VBForums P2P browser plugin to work on code in real time, interact with Forum

I wrote about this in another thread, but changed a few ideas. I think a p2p browser plugin would be great for VBForums.

* Basically this plugin will display as a VB text icon in a browser's navigation menu. Clicking it will run this plugin within a browser tab.

* Uses the same login that was created on VBForums, so you're also shown as logged in on the website.

* Chat with other VBF members, in private or public, with the same text format options as VBF threads. Next to the main body of the chat window will be a dynamic notepad to share code.

* Has a screen capture option for capturing Visual Studio's dashboard, which can capture the whole screen or a region of it.

* Option to post a detailed chat reply, with code, as a new VBF thread.

* Share projects, but the app will automatically delete binaries from it before it's sent.

* Search, post threads and comment on VBForums like we already do.

*Display VBForum ads, so the site doesn't lose any revenue because of this plugin. Clicking an ad will open a new browser tab.


Dropped the idea about employers being able to run users scripts to test them.

So what do you think? Any other ideas?

I've moved it to the feedback section. In ChitChat it would probably get deluged with off topic silliness.

I think the stumbling block for this idea would be that we already ask folks not to post black boxes (e.g. compiled exes etc) and this does sound like a more sophisticated way to do just that. There are a few reasons for this:-
1. The forum is intended to be somewhere that people come to learn and to do that they need to see code.
2. The forum's income is from paid advertisements. This would be a form of free advertising so would undermine the forum's revenue stream.
3. Fear that a virus could be spread because people can't check what the code is actually doing.

I actually like the idea of this becoming a place where people can show their level of ability and share development projects but it would need to be a model where the code was white box.

I updated my p2p idea to it being a p2p browser plugin for VBForums. Besides working as a p2p application, it will be closely tied to the VBForums site.
