Yeah, the north/south California thing seems to come up every couple of years. Like the Mojave, it's just full of hot air. Nothing ever seems to come of it.

I don't think it will ever happen. There is too much work to be done to make it happen. The first thing I thought of was my place of employment. I work for California State University, Fullerton. There are 23 CSU in the state. What happens to all 23 if they separate? What about California Highway Patrol? 6 different highway patrols? Gun laws? All California laws for that matter? There is just too much work. Two is reasonable. But 6... no way.

Saner heads tend to prevail in these things. There have been similar suggestions to split eastern Washington off with northern Idaho. This is usually suggested to lump similar politics together, but it would result in the poorest state in the nation, and one of the least populated.
