Dead of Alive?
Mummified monk in Mongolia 'not dead', say Buddhists
I am not a medical expert, but he looks alive to me.

I've seen the documentary Underworld and he's definitely a vampire.

The monk was discovered after being stolen by a man hoping to sell him on the black market.
There's a black market for mummified monks? Who knew?

It's still a body, and it isn't going to be light. What thief would come across such a body and say to themselves, "this has got to be worth something!" I'm not sure that the authorities are studying the right person.

I'm dead on the inside.
Luckily my dazzling personality prevents people from noticing.
I don't live here any more.

I guess it is relative. A 165 lb man would weight about 63 lbs as a mummy, being dessicated and water being about 60% of an adult male's weight.

You mean as in the statement, "He's not heavy. He's my brother." Or...maybe not that kind of relative....

So what. It's still a 63 lb mummy. Some thief saw that and though, "I can get some cash for this guy!!!". That's nuts! Who the heck is going to pay enough for a mummy to justify the effort to steal the thing, even if it weighed only 10 lbs? After all Michael Jackson is dead, and there probably aren't that many more total wack-job collectors out there in the world.

Re: Dead of Alive?
Not that kind, evidently. I'm talking about people who have both a desire to posess a mummy, and the money to make a mummy worth stealing.

I'd like a mummy. I need something to tell me about the honey.

Yeh but this is in Mongolia, its not like there is a lot of other things to steal. A mummy is probably a prize find

Well, there's some rocks. And a lot of tufty grass. Couple of trebuchets here and there...
To be honest my only exposure to Mongolian culture has been gleaned from playing an unhealthy amount of Age Of Empires over the last 15 years or so.
I'd wager that it is a rich source of tribal knowledge and tradition. And some other junk.

That's one mummy for which it might be worth the effort of stealing.
