Bits per Pixel? Customize Screen Resolution?

A while ago, I made a post about the Terminal font being displayed on a VB form and how it displays vertically at 75% of what it should, but horizontally it's fine. I decided to live with it until I thought of a couple ideas and thought I'd post them to see if anyone knows if either idea might have a chance to work or not before I dedicate several hours to them...

Idea 1: Can I change the "Bits Per Pixels" vertically only?
Idea 2: Can I customize my own screen resolution? Or can monitors only display certain resolutions?

Thanks for any input -- good or bad -- you can give me. As you can see, I'm trying to figure out a way that if the font won't change, maybe I can somehow change the screen to accomodate the font. Possible or not?

1) Bits Per Pixel refers only to the number of colors your computer has the ability to display. 1 Bit = BW, 2 Bit = 4 color, 4 Bit = 16 colors, 8 bits = 256 colors, etc, etc.

2) Most Moniters can only display resolutions at a 3:4 ratio.

Some 5:4 are available (1280x1024) and also 16:9 (1600x900, 848x480, 1280x720, 1360x768) and some are just weird (720x480, 320x200, 1280x768, 1600x1024). These are the ones supported on my GeForce2 MX. You can get all the way up to 2048x1536 if your card has a 350mhz RAMDAC. Of course you need 22" monitors to support these.
