    Moderators ?!?!

I just surfed through the first four pages of the General VB Questions and there are a lot of questions related to database programming, recordset handling etc out there. Can the moderators please look into this? I mean just move these threads to the Database section and inform the thread starters about the change?

Now that we have moderation in place, let's try to observer the rules as much as possible, shouldn't we?

I would agree with HB on this one, but I think something John could try is to move the General VB forum to the bottom of the VB list, so instead of saying "Anything that doesn't fit into the forums below", it would say "anything that doesn't fit into the forums above". Small change, but people are more likely to look at the preceeding ones first...

    Thanks, Serge.

The problem is I don't want to 'report' such threads, because they are not there by intention, and they do have something to do with VB. At the same time it will take time to educate them about the use.

More work for you and the team, I guess.

    Thanks anyway.

    i personally am againts this
a LOT of people only check General section
and thats where most questions get answered

why whine and complain when the people get their help they want, doesnt matter how they get it

arent we here to help and be helped?

yes there are seperate forums for each
but just LET IT GO PEOPLE

  10. #10
Dude, if there is a Database forum, would it not be logical to say that the people who go there will be able to help you more than in the GVB forum?

    Well ...

Aren't you whining about the moderation policy, Kovan? Anyway, that's something you should do in Chit Chat, passing remarks about other members etc.

but thats not usually the case
most people (i being one of them) check general more than i check db,

  13. #13
And clutter it up more for people who actually have questions that only fit there.

Eh, ever heard such terms as organization, management, division of labour & specialization?

Why do you think John created a whole lot of forums? Do you think it has some meaningful purpose, or he just didn't know what to do with his spare time?

Everywhere, there are rules, and they are not meant to be broken. Occasionally, a mistake here and there is pardonable. But if you make mistakes a way of life, or try to glorify them, it would not be acceptable.

Calling ourselves software developers, we should at least have the discinpline and the sense to post only in the appropriate forums.

    Good God,

Clearly a lot of people have too much time on their hands. What a complete waste of time. If ya don't like threads in General about DB matters then don't read them.

No wonder membership on this site is changing. Moderation will force this site into the wilderness of lameness and sameness. Ok l'm off to a private vb site, where ya can ask what ya want, in any forum without ppl getting up tight about it.

    Give me a break.....

They should rename this site www.boringworld.com

Ok that's my ***** for the day. Bye, see ya later

    Well ...

    Upset, are you Big Boy??

Take it easy, since we have got rules, I thought maybe we should try to observe them.

Whether we should have moderation or not, we have had enough debate on that. But if moderation is here to stay, there is no point in raising hell against it.

Also all I am asking for is that questions should be posted in the appropriate forums. New members are exempted, due to lack of knowledge about the forums etc. etc. and members like you are exempted, because you know what you are doing, and you do it only occasionally. But when someone like Kovan (meaning a member, and an active one at that, at the forums for such a long time) tries to say that it's actually right to spoil the forums disciplines, I would beg to differ.

Phase 2 of the moderators was to try and bring a bit more population into the other forums. Since phase 1 went down so well, phase 2 was put on the back burner for a while. We'll keep on moving a few threads at the moment, and we might try blitzing them at some point in the future to make people use the other forums.

    Well ...

I personally am OK with some threads getting into the wrong forums, but thought that anyway we had separate forums, ...

And the database forum really has very less traffic as compared to the General VB forums, and half the new threads in General VB seem to be about databases and dbgrids and such stuff.

It blows my mind why they decide to post database questions in the forum that is not related to databases.

Not over the top at all, Filburt...

There's often a fine line between VB and DB questions. Most of the DB questions I've seen in the General VB area are to do with the interaction between the two. It's therefore quite valid to put them in General VB - especially because they're far more likely to be answered.

You're making me agree with Kovan here, and I really don't like that. It's not often he comes across as more reasonable than anyone (although his "Now shadduap" thankfully managed to blow that prospect)...
Indecisiveness is the key to flexibility.

I just dont understand why it would be a problem for anyone to encounter ocasional db questions in the general section. Most of the ones I have seen could really go either way. You shouldnt start going off as soon as you see "ADO" in the thread. Relax!

Is it really such a big deal to have to momentarily look at a post that you arent interested in?

I understand what you want but I think you can't
stop it unless John checks each thread and
move it to its forum where it should belong.

It will slow down the site.

I've done a test with a thread and put it in general and
database. I received no reply in database.

So I agree with the others to let it be.
The one thing that must be changed is the subject there
you could select what the thread is about.

Moderating could help but than you need at least 2 for
each forum because of the international time.

We are awake and working whilst you have an nightmare about
    VB-Net

    cheers
    Ray
