I had the same problem, and solved it by using DivX v 3 intstead of 4...

I was having that problem, couldn't seem to watch certain movies (dvds, divx) that I downloaded, needed a codec, so I searched Morpheus, download one that said "Divx Player-ALL files & DVD ripper", and it seemed to have everything I needed, so now I can watch freely .
Well..on a 56k modem, I can't do much with downloading movies, takes forever, got to be patient, til' DSL comes in November .

I think that the movie was not fully downloaded. It was about 600MB and I only downloaded 52MB so far and then tried to watch that much.
But I was able to watch an unfinished movie some days before.
