    Question

Is it true that you can place an ActiveX control on a website? If so, can someone tell me how?

Yes you can. But take in account that Netscape wouldn't able to see it. But if you're sure that you will have IE in use then you can use OBJECT tag to show the object on the page. Also, you would have to use CodeBase attribute to specify the location of the Cab or Inf file of that control.

    Don't bother

Don't bother using ActiveX unless it's for a company or set amount of machines. To view a page owning an activeX control you have to either pre-register it on the user's machine in "regedit" or have the user turn his IE Security options to "minimal" and refresh to register the activeX. Some machines will make you reboot before it accepts the new settings. It's not viewable in Netscape, and if IE is not the default browser IE may not even be able to open it. I wrote a pretty cool one but now am going to learn java instead because of these problems. If you want to see this page it's at http://www.arrowspages.com follow the links to "shapemaker".
Good luck and stick with java,
    Joey o
