Re: $360 later...
Is this an annual charge? My vehicle registration tax is €540 for the Peugeot (but only €52 for the far more polluting GT6)

Re: $360 later...
I'm paying 340 for the '13 Dodge Journey this year... the Ford F150 is only 80, but it's a 2002.
Merrion - yeah, it's an annual charge, it usually goes down yearly as the vehicle gets older. Property tax. Where I'm at though, most of it actually goes to the schools. Less than $50 of that 340 actually goes to the State or the state. the rest actually stays around here in the school district or county.

I think I'm at $130 for two years, but that includes a state park pass.

For my 1999 Subaru Outback Legacy Oregon charges $20 + $77 for regstration renewal and DEQ testing.
If I lived 1 mile further north I could skip the DEQ testing.

Re: $360 later...
It may be different now but about fifteen years ago in Georgia they had an added value (ad valorem) tax so that part of your registration cost was based on how valuble your car is. A brand new car owner paid more then a used car owner.

Re: $360 later...
Washington state had that, but it was overturned. Florida had a MASSIVE fee for registering cars in FL for the first time. This was intended to discourage people from bringing in cars. It was ruled unconstitutional, and the state had to refund the money it had received over the years.

I remember that from when I lived there but I never paid it. It was called an impact fee I think. I moved to Georgia for work shortly after it went into affect. I hadn't heard it was over turned.

Re: $360 later...
Im afraid to see the new registration fee for the new 2015 Mustang GT Premium I just bought yesterday. Comes in 4 months and thats when I find out. Plus throw personalized plates on top of that too.

I'm paying about $30 for my '00 Impala, then again I bought it for "$100"
If I lived in one of those states that tax vehicles like real estate I would drive a cheap old beater as well.
