    I just wanted to say..

Wanna know what I hate? I hate people who go around insulting things by saying that they're crap and they suck when they can't create something better! Why are people insulting Windows? Can they create a better operating system? I didn't think so because I dont see it. If you love Linux/Unix so badly then what are you doing using this OS? People use this operating system because it's more user friendly and easy to use in many ways. It gives you enough control over your system with ease without the hastle. Besides, Windows comes free with every system that is sold, what else could you ask for? What Bill Gates did was something amazing. He captured the market with his intelligence and played it out untill it became what it is today. Now, we can easily create an application that 80% of computer users can run because they run the same operating as us *well...minor version differences but no matter*. Anyways, that's all I wanted to say. Give it a thought and just be gratefull for what you have! Also, before you say that this OS sucks, think of what it would be like without it *50% less computer users that's for sure.*!

    Dont Agree.
Just because you make a good product doesn't mean you could do things that are illegal

Windows is good at what it does. However for scalable, enterprise level applications, it doesn't compare to unix/java/sybase. Of course this is a small portion of the overall market and MS are improving their products all the time.

Perhaps in 5-10 years MS will have a set of products that will knock linux/unix out of the top spot for enterprise level solutions too? Only time will tell.

Hmmm..... Windows 2000 Datacenter Server has been out quite some time now.
Java isn't scalable beyound a firewall.... If you don't use SOAP (read MS architecture).

    Joacim

I haven't used unix/java myself, but all the top notch corporate telcos / banking institutions I know of use this combination where money is no object.

Consquently I would love to have these skills. In the meantime I'll plod away with the MS stuff.

Yeah they do but that is mostly because they need a more powerfull computer then a PC server not because Unix is necessarily better then Windows (and I'm not saying it isn't either. Both OS has there pros and cons).

I have to say that I am kind of torn on this subject. I just bought my first PC a few months ago. Prior to this purchase I had been using an Apple iBook regularly (please let me finish...). I had to make the PC purchase for the simple reason that I had been using Virtual PC to run Windows 95 on the iBook more that using the Mac interface itself. Personally I prefer the look and feel of the mac over any MS Windows product to date. However, there is no denying the simple fact that it is easier to program for windows and there are a hell of a lot more opportunities to program for Windows. I am not a huge supporter of Billy Gates, though there is no arguing that VB is one hell of a programming language.

Have any of the Unix users here seen the Unix capabilities of the new Mac OS X? I don't know much about Unix, so it's hard for me to say how it rates.

If you go to this link you will see that Windows is beginning to improve with its latest stuff. This is a result submitted by IBM as well(bet that hurt ) More large organisations are moving their enterprise apps to Windows because its becoming faster and cheaper.
