    Ati

    Their drivers suck.

Some people might know about WinZip. Well, everybody does. Hmm. Anyway, when you add files to WinZip, the ZIP file is initially created on the C: drive, then moved to the drive where you want it.

My ATI TV Wonder is retarded and does the same thing. It has a feature called "Digital VCR" that lets you record video to your HD. I get decent quality at 10 MB/min. So I can fit 70 mins on a CD. Awesome.

The only problem is my HD is partition very stringently (I MEMORIZED the letters ):
    C: System files ONLY
    D: Programs, CompanyName\Product
    E: Arien's Stuff (Personal Documents)
F: Virtual Memory and Scratch disks
G: Everything else (a DVD was ripped there )
    H: ZIP Drive
    I: DVD
    J: Burner
    K: MP3s

All of the partitions (C, D, E, F, G, and K) are partitions on a 20 GB hard drive that came with my Dell. I might soon drop in an 80 GB *drool*.

The problem is, when you record something in the TV Viewer software for the ATI TV Wonder, it initially records to C. The system drive. The one that intentionally only as 108 MB free. I want it to go to G:, which has 1 GB free, so I can record stuff there and then burn them onto CDs.

But I can't record more than 10 mins of stuff until the recording stops and saves to the G: drive.

Also, I noted that the dates are in dd/mm/yy format (like 06/08/01 for August 6, 2001). I don't know how they do it in Canada (where ATI is headquartered), but here in the US we use the (less intelligent ) system of mm/dd/yy.

Their hardware is awesome. ATI drivers suck.

BTW, I found this out after trying to record--guess what show? Rocko's Modern Life. It is on at 6:30 AM , and there is no way in hell I'm getting up that early. (Except when school starts ).

ATI sucks. Period. GeForce2 MX400 64 Meg for a comparably price and kick ass performance. Also Note: twice the memory. For video... Get a WinTV tuner. or... get a Elsa Gladiac video module, converts your Elsa/Visiontek Geforce2/MX 32M/64M card to TV input and output(VIVO).

    Detailed specs are great.

Their hardware is cool, their drivers are not. And of course, nVidia makes the best stuff, as usual. Their drivers are excellent: they work and don't add a crapload of "features" (things that run in the background for no useful reason). The Detonator 3 drivers let you tweak Gamma, Brightness, and 3D acceleration stuff. Nobody needs a tray icon, like ATI chucks in their drivers.

I agree with you on the ATI. they have good hardware and there drivers suck but you can get teh trayicon off there and never have it come back again. If i get another one it won't be ATI, then again I do like the radeon cards.

To get rid of the tray icon:
    Start | run | regedit

    Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Remove the ati.exe thing. then ctrl+alt+del the one currently running.

I never could work out why you go against the rest of the world and use a dumber system of displaying dates...I mean fair enough if it made sense, but it doesn't!

The original problem wasn't so much the drivers as it is their DVD or VCR type software. I agree they don't make the best drivers but I think mainly they nobody is bootlegging their bets drivers everyother day like Nvidia. I have both a GeForce 2 Ultra and an ATI Rage Pro and they are both very good cards. For gaming nothing beats Nvidia but for quality alone ATI does very well especially for the price.

No offense taken. It SHOULD like other contries (including Spain): dd/mm/yy. But what I mean is that if they KNEW their drivers were for use in the US, they should have used the current system as to not confuse people. It confused me. I thought it was a bug, and then I noticed the 8 for August...

Or if you have Windows 98/Me, Start > Run > msconfig. But they shouldn't dump it in there in the first place.
