Battle of the Browsers - IE vs Netscape

OK, i just want to see how popular Netscape is with you guys, because if it isnt, i wont waste my time trying to get my restrictions to work with it. Personally i think Netcape stinks, but i need more input...

chrisjk, i didnt spot that thread when i did a search for 'Netsape' Anyway, i will use the results of the poll to detirmine what i do, If IE wins, i'll forget Netscape restrictions, but if Netscape wins i wont

What you could do is, write code that conforms to the standards and too bad for browsers that don't support them. One of my friends is doing that.

it's not just us that us NS, it is a lot of people that still use it. it is still out there and if you don't bother with it then you won't get very many people hitting your site. I like NS but it does have it's limitations.

Nutscrape sucks, Opera isn't worth using, and Mozilla is the biggest open source waste of sapce i've ever seen.

These restrictions are only a tiny part of my program, and if i am getting sick of trying to get em working with netscape. I think i'll jack Netscape restrictions, and get my prog finished!

Both of thes are "Tabbed" Browsers. Why have 12 IE browser windows open, not knowing which one is which, and sucking up resources bigtime. It's alot easier just to have just one window, with 12 "Tabs", more organized, and not as intense resource hog as IE.

BTW: I've heard something about Opera. I guess now you can design how it looks, maybe even some of it's functions....Online. Then you can click a button to compile and it will compile you a custom browser to d/l. I need to check it out.....I haven't heard much more than that.

There is (or was?) a bug in Opera that does in impromptu denial-of-service attack on some sites.

People I know use Mozilla and don't seem to have any complaints about it. If you have Linux with KDE there's Konqueror too. I expect there's a GNOME equivalent but I don't know what it is. Personally I use IE, because Netscape does, unfortunately, suck bigtime.

Given the choice of equivalent products I'd use Netscape, but even though IE is buggy Netscape is worse.

HB, are you on NT/2000? If so then you never needed to worry. I have 256mb but I'm on 98 and therefore I still run out of resources just as quickly Well, quicker actually because my programs load faster

I have 512 MB. I can run Photoshop and Quake 3 at the same time.

Parksie, I dont want to upset you, but Win98's memory manager can access only 96MB, means that you have the rest of the memory waisted and that's why you're running out of memory fast. In WinME, you can have up to 256MB, in WinNT 4 - 1GB (with mutliple CPUs, 4GB), in Win2K - 8GB.


About IE vs NS. As in MS Office vs Corel Office I would prefer MS product. Only because I am a programmer and sometimes I have to write programs for internet browser. Microsoft has IE object library exposed as in almost all microsoft products, which gives me a great deal of control programmatically.

Oh. I never had a problem with memory, only resources. Plus how come I can keep loading things and sysmon gradually drops the free physical memory graph?
