Smile Anyone know a good java book?

I'm just finishing my first Java class and want to learn more from a straightforward, easy to understand Java book. Does anyone know a good one? Also how about recommending a Java book that's more of a reference book? Thanks!

JAVA in a Nutshell by O'Reilly "David Flanagan" 3rd Edition

This one one of the most read books in my collection. Ive brought this book everywhere with me to the beach to on planes, to work. For $29.95 you cant beat it!

I'll vouch for "Insert Discipline Here" in a Nutshell by O'Reilly. They also take up less space on the bookshelf and take less from the wallet.

For books, I would recommend that you search www.amazon.com

For newbies the best books are the Sams Publishing "Teach yourself in 21 days" books. But if youre more advanced programmer, try the Nutshell or the Unleashed books.

I agree, except I think the Nutshell series sucks. But that's IMHO.

Attention Attention! do not buy this book. (Java 2 Certification) by Jamie Jaworski. It is a piece of crap. Read the reviews at the bottom of the page. I wrote a review for this book but they didnt put it up because i ripped the book and the author apart, but then again so did every one else. This book is sub divided into three major chapters programmer, developer, Architect, so essentialy you are only getting 384 pages for the programmer exam(310-025).

This is the book i used to study for the Jave 2 programmer exam i took last week and out of 59 question i answered 30 correct.

This book is great..... over 700 pages just for the programmers exam. It's a little hard to read but well worth buying. Read the reviews!
