MS 8, Renamed files reverting to their originally name.
Hello Everyone:
I have renamed a number of MP3 files only to go back and find out that they have be changed back to the name that they were created with. I am the only user on this computer. I have also made sure that I have not gone back and changed anything. Is there a way that I might be unwittingly changing a setting without realizing what I am doing? I have never had this problem with any other OS?
Does anyone have any idea on how I can avoid the file reverting to their previous names?
Thanks
Art W.

By "MS 8" do you actually mean Windows 8? I've been using Windows 8 on a number of machines for quite some time and have never seen renamed files revert to the original name. Where are these files located? How EXACTLY are you testing this? Do the file names only revert after a restart or something else?

Yes I am using Microsoft Version 8 6.2.9200 build 9200. I am using the default file My Music. I have ripped a number of CD’s to this file. I rename both the folder and the files in that folder (MP3’s). I have a specific naming scheme. I also add a bunch of X’s or Z’s to tell me which files are done and which files need to be worked on. I was playing some songs from one folder that I had renamed. The next day when I went to listen to some more songs in the same folder they had reverted to the name that they had when they were ripped. I have seen this in a number of different files over the course of six months?

Check the settings in the player... I know Windows Media Player had an option to rename files based on a template... drove me nuts, couldn't figure out how to turn the dang thing off... ended up having to move my music folder and files before it could get a hold of them and re-name them again. Not sure if that's still an "option" in Windows 8, but it's worth investigating.
