Draw a circle through those three points. This circle is an ellipse with zero eccentricity. There are many other ellipses with varying eccentricity that can be draw through these three points.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for taking an interest. My question was about non-circular ellipses. I thought that would be obvious because a circle doesn't have an apex, but the potential confusion wasn't cleared up until post #3 of this thread. BB
