Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
I "tried" to stopp a car, but I lost.
One week in hospital, besides other "minors" my "patella" is smashed.

Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
I tried that, too, with somewhat better success. I only spent a day in the hospital and another week in bed. Injuries weren't too bad, since I just pulled a bunch of muscles in my back, though really painful. I did manage a minor success, though, as I took out a light or two on the car.

Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
HeHe, as I heard I broke at least the front-window of the car (it was probably my knee). But I didn't see the car after the acident nor my bicycle, since I got a free ride in one of the those cars with fancy ligths and horns.
Actually only the rip brusies are hurting, not to mention the fact that I can't bend my knee. There is hope that I will be able to bent it again, but I have to be patiened. My usual jogging ( used to be 3 -4 10k's a week) is over, lets hope for riding the bike again.
But I do feel lucky to be still here, I did wear my helmet!!

Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
In my case, the car was stationary (and, unfortunately, I happened to know the lady who was driving) and I encountered it on a blind corner. The bike was not as horribly damaged as you might expect. The front wheel was no longer round, but shaped rather like a Pringle, and one pedal was broken, but that was all. I went over the hood and landed on pavement with a dusting of sand. You would expect that I'd have been a giant road rash, but the only external damage was a scrape about the size of a quarter. I don't know what that converts to in pounds. It was certainly less than a quarter pounder, with or without cheese, and the road didn't take a pound of flesh, either, though I did rather pound the pavement.

I think you were taking the name City Flyer a little too literally . Get better soon!

That's a good one, thank you for that.
@Shaggy:
It sounds as if you dealing with such an "event" the same as I do. Making jokes about it helps to overcome it.

Well they do say that humor is the best medicine... for some (like me) it's also a defense mechanism... I also have a tendency to use it during meetings that get too serious (but only when appropriate).

Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
For me, the first accident, where my front wheel came off (I think), is the one that had the longer lasting result. I had only had the bike repaired for a month or so (the long winter kept me off bikes for several months) when I hit the car. The result is that, to this day, whenever I am coasting down a significant hill I tend to ride the brakes because I can just see the front wheel coming off all the time. That's a bit odd, because I'm not sure that I remember the front wheel coming off the time that it did happen. I don't remember much of anything from that day. I reacted well, as I picked up the bike, carried it home, and called an aunt who was a registered nurse. That was a remarkable call, since she had only moved to that address about a month earlier and I had never called her there before. Apparently, damaged though it was, my brain was functioning well enough to use the phone book...or something. I'm not even sure if the number would have been in the book by then. It was long before the age of cell phones or the internet, though.

Re: Something is wrong with my Bicycle
No, not really... I just find that some meetings are more productive when they don't get bogged down and there's a little bit of humor injected in from time to time. It can help to diffuse the tension and get people to relax. Now, if I'm in an executive-session... I keep quiet.
