Hello,
Is anybody out there using Vb to access data on a Novell server?
I have a Novell 4.1 server with all the data stored on it and I would like to use VB to create a new company system.
I was thinking about using a three tier app but I'm not sure how to implement it on a Novell server. I have found a few sample apps that deal with a NT server, but nothing for a Novell server.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

We've just implemented an Agent Application that runs as an NT Service. It's main job right now is to constantly check for updated files on a Novell server, when found it pulls and pushes the data to another NT box at our office. To be able to do this you need to configure Gateway Services for NT. There are howto's in the MSKB. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE to setup the first go around, we even had to put in a $250 5 minute call to Microsoft to figure out how to do it.
We only did this for because it was absolutely required within the specs for certain high profile customers, who we could not make the suggestion to lose Novell and switch to NT. Unfortunately, this experience has made me realize that I HATE NOVELL. One more time, I HATE NOVELL. Setting up the contexts and permissions and all that other crap was the worst experience I've ever had.
If you have a choice, develop for NT. Novell has very little support for anything regarding NT/Novell integration.

Hello pvb,
Ooooooooh Nooooooo!!!!! This is not good!
I don't envy you experiences with Novell and all.
The company will not forgo the Novell box for a NT box, this know this already. So I will have to build this app to use the Novell box.
I guess, I will have to start with a small data access app and work it out from there. My users will already be logged into the server so I will be able to just access the tables directly with out having to do server loggon. (Thank God) but I'm still wondering how I should go about setting the app up. I guess the three tier model is hosed so I will have to drop back to a two tier model
Well, I will just try to figure this one out.
Thanks for the note!
