That's funny, I seem to recognise all the names here !!

I know what you mean, I find that if I'm in a mood to program something but I don't have any projects pending I come here and look at other people's issues. Then just for the sake of learning, write an app to solve a problem, then paste the code.

The only way to learn is to DO, and I used not to have anything to write which is why I didn't learn...

but now !!!!

I still want to join a vb open source group, get some people together and build a few dlls with controls in them. I'm good in the areas I know but there are a lot of areas I don't know which is why I want to put my skills with others' to put some good componants together.

I've lookad at http://www.vbopensource.co.uk and the same site in the us sponsered by some xml group, but it's too formal for the structure and not formal enough for the methods...

ie. it needs to be open like this place so people can add things (have proper interacive ideas going, properly formatted vb-html code etc) and be more professional at the same time. they look like back yard jobs that are unreasonably strict on process (an odd combination).

maybe they are taking thems selves too seriously, but I wish them luck anyway, I'm all for vb opensource.

Kedaman! I think your idea sounds good and bad. I understand that reorganizing the topics. Hey! We are programmers and everything should be detail and organize. I agree with you on that.

However, have you notice,the first thing most people do is log into the "General Question"? If you post a question on the "Database" or "Internet", it takes forever for you to get a reply.

Kind of funny, but I once posted a database question in both the "General" and "Database". No one even bother replying to my message on "Database".

Ok, That's the problem, and that is not the problem if you think about how we could change this site. People should be able to personalize their interface of this site, where a searchengine or a agent would sort the posts in which order is most interesting for them. Matching words or topics, or even specified users.

Is there methodone or something, that I can take to get off

What would really make this site kick ass, would be a real-

Some of you guys are spending way to much time on this site. Yes it is great for Q&A, but please go and do some work then ya may come up with some more questions Sam.

Have just been forced by my boss to look at bitblt for some graphics app. Hmmm...probably be posting a million and one queries here as never having looked at this thing before.

Our company views this site as a resource, in my opinion that should be a common occurance. If your company cuts code in vb this site should be viewed in the same was as VBPJ or a programming book.

John and the guys and gals should get a big thunderous applause for running this thing....

Ok Sam some advice....find some one in business, doesn't matter who, friend of a relation whatever, see if they need a desktop system. Generally any small business will be keen on something like Sales Analysis or Customer retention.

Offer to do the system for nothing. That's right write them a free piece of software. Then use this site as a reference when contacting employees.

The above works, l used it to get my first job with vb.
Employers kind of like it if you can show initutive, and a sales orientation.

Another Idea if you get an interview with an Employer who turns you down, (would have to be a turkey in todays market). Ring them up every couple of weeks to see if they are hiring...wear the bastards down

This site is SO addictive, you're right! I can't believe I'm here at 2 am on my day off on this site again. I'm supposed to be doing ASP at work but I always find myself reading threads where I have no idea what the posters are talking about and generally checking back to see if I can waste some more time every 15 mins

i've tried a bit to get a job, but no-one seems to want to employ a little 13 year old programmer. I've tried getting into courses to extend my skills but they say that 15 is the minimum age.....

Playing around at home is cool but when you get a job in the industry you get to play with all the equipment that you couldn't nomally afford.

I'm in network engineering and vb saves me by automating the boring work, but I love to play with millions of dollars in network hardware ,

It's just so... rewarding being able to answer people's questions, and it makes ya feel like you know what you're talking about I can't remember the last time I posted a question. It was months ago.

I think the most rewarding part is that you prove to yourself you can comprehend and solve others problem similar to a business proposition. Plus, I notice the years I been tutoring others, I become more first nature with the subject. So in the end, it is a win-win situation. Beside, I remember how intimidating programming was at one time.

One of the best examples was when venkat was trying to move a control in a circle - goodness knows why!

I´m not addicted, I can make it through the weekend without looking at this site, but ...

I´m not even a programmer !

I´m just an Internal Auditor who likes to automate work as far as possible without using expensive pre-packaged Audit programmes.

Looking at questions and answers of others really helps a lot, it may even create a problem you haven´t had yet.

So, guys and gals, keep up the good work. If I should ever get that good to answer a question in this forum, I´ll throw a party, promised.

Yes Nitro you are right. VBWORLD.COM is a really addictive site. After I registered to it this month i visit it twice or thrice a day and have posted more than 25 threads b'coz i get replies to all my threads in an hour or two or max. one day.

Really a great site for vb programmers. It's a heaven for me.

Addictive is not the word, this site is more addictive than an extremely addictive thing!!

My connection is crap at work, it keeps dropping every 2-3 minutes so trying to view the threads (even worse, post something) is an absolute nightmare, but I still look in every hour or so. How sad!

Even worse is that at home my connection never drops and it is free, so when at home I nearly always have a look around the site for an hour or so. Even sadder!

But the worst is that if I've been out for the night, when I come back in the wee hours, I log on for a quick look around as half the people on the site are in a timezone which is day time to them. Saddest!

Anyway thats quelled my withdrawal syptoms for a bit

Its not just the design of the site (which is excellent) but also the members of it which make it so good. Everyone deserves a big pat on the back. Keep it up.
