Sweet. What kind of options did you get? The bare-bones 1500 is a great deal to get a vehicle with a worthwhile V8 these days. A very fast vehicle - until you get to the twisty stuff.

I went the opposite direction and just bought a 2014 V6 Mustang with the performance package (GT suspension, GT brakes, 3.31 rear, 19" wheels, etc). "Only" 305 horsepower which is plenty enough for me as I do my racing on the track. The handling is unbelievable for a 3400 lb. car. Grabber blue is tough to capture digitally but I keep trying:

If I could (afford it) I'd like to pick up '53-'56 F100 and restore it... don't want to make a street rod out of it, like some do with it, but something showable, yet functional as a truck at the same time...

Nice Mustang. The color is pretty nice actually.

I dont know the exact package I got, but its better than stock. One dealership had one with a tow package for a similar price, but I ended up going with another dealership. If/when i actually tow i will throw on my own hitch kit.

That is a fancy looking truck. I have seen Texas Versions of other trucks too. What makes a truck "Texas version"? Is it only available in Texas?

So far the only thing im not liking about having a truck is the gas mileage and how much it costs to fill the tank. My Mazda 3 was a 14 gallon tank and went 500(ish) miles. This truck is 23 (26?) gallons and only goes 320 miles. Other than that, having a truck is awesome.

You didn't say which year, engine, transmission, etc. but mid-2000s Mazda 3's got something like 32 mpg highway, lower if you use the revised EPA model so maybe real-world highway driving say 30 mpg? Some packages did significantly worse too.

30 × 14 = 420 mile range on a good day then.


I do a lot of driving and with gas prices up there good mileage and range saves both money and time (and time is money after all).

Depending on the terrain and whether limits are 55 or 70 I get 42 to 48 mpg (55 mph on the flat I can squeeze 53 mpg or so) highway on my old clunker with its 13.2 gallon tank. So I can space fueling, rest, food stops at 500 miles with plenty of cushion if there's nothing in sight at the 500 mile mark. Of course I don't haul cargo either - just luggage, one bag of computer gear, and a cooler (for drinks, fruit, and sandwiches). Well, that and a road kit and a sleeping bag for "just in case."

If I need a new stove or washer I can have it delivered, but cargo space is indeed handy for picking up a few sticks of lumber or sheets of plywood now and again.

I spent a small amount of time commuting in a 3-ton tractor with dual 65 gallon tanks. Without the trailer, I could get a bit over 20 mpg, which gave me a theoretical range of 2,600 miles. Unfortunately, it performed terribly in even a modest rain, let alone snow or ice, where it was uncontrollable. The lack of weight on the rear dualies meant that the truck tried to turn around on its own.

Nice! I leased for many years and it works for me. Some people are just adamant against leasing. To me the key is if you want to stay on a new vehicle all the time that is the way to go.
