I think the whole idea is dumb. Now Chit-Chat is going to suck because we can no longer do the things we could to before, and no longer make fun of kovan (and his mom). I am thinking about just quitting this forums because it is going to lose more members because a lot of us were on here chatting and having a good time. If we took away the moderation then more people would come here to help, because they can just sit back and have a good time. I for one am against chit-chat moderation, unless it is Katie doing it because she will take her authority seriously (yeah right!). I understand John not wanting the forums to go even more out of control then they already are, but its no longer fun. Post Race has been closed so there goes one of the major threads a lot of people were involoved in. I also understand John not wanting threads like the Pissing Sheep thread, but the comment(s) about rape were only joking, and everyone knows that they weren't serious. All of the comments made in this forums are all in good fun and i don't believe that too many people are offended. If they are then i think that they can take the responsibility upon themselves to ignore it. It doesn't help any to have a lot of people constantly whining that so and so made a name that offended them. No one has ever made a gay_skitchen8 name because i try to not offend people. If someone wanted to make a gay_skitchen8 name i really wouldn't care though, because I can ignore the person that made it, or just laugh with everyone else. Anyways thats just my opinion, not that anyone cares or anything though.

Question
What sort of think will the moderator do? Simply close threads they disapprove of or will they ban members to?

This is my opinion only but........
A good moderator should step in when things are getting out of hand and warn the members that they need to tone it down or change the subject or the thread will be closed. If they persist they should not be allowed to post in that thread anymore and the offending post should be deleted. If they continue in another thread they should be locked from the chit-chat forum.
The problem arises when the moderator is not objective about what is offensive and what is not. What guidelines will be followed to make this call? The things I find offensive may be totally acceptable to others and vice versa. I wouldn't want to make the call.

Only the admin can ban members, in most cases.

Logically, If a thread is started with the purest intentions,
and a few people post {Abusive, Abrasive, Objectionable, etc...}
{whatever that means} replies that are deemed unacceptable,
why should the whole thread be Removed?
Certainly, it would seem that some surgical deletions could
be all that is needed, deleting only those posts that pollute the
thread.
Or, if a thread is going in a direction that might be considered
offensive, there should be {I don't know who, but someone
made this recommendation} an "Adult" forum, {P'rhaps called
something like: "Gutter Chat - PG13 - Insensitive And
Objectionable"} Where Threads could be intentionally made,
and/or be the Final resting place of threads that would be
otherwise Moderated into oblivion.

There's a secret admin forum where threads like that go, including our bar thread (hint hint, John ).
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".

And, ultimately, if we really want to, we could just start encoding
our posts. Of course, who would be allowed access to the
decrypter? It would seem that the decrypter would have to be
limited only to those that perhaps have a postcount above
a certain limit, and if the person is above a certain age.
Its propably not feasable, but its a thought.

PG13 forum sounds good... some1 e-mail john about it, that way we could post objectional material w/o worry that children would see it

I was thinking along the lines of Access by Birthday, Time as a member, and Postcount.
The first just to make sure we aren't held responsable for frying the
wee ones greystuff, and the other two just to be a perk to work towards.
It'd be nice to have a perk based on longeveity and post count.

Ok, as long as im allowed in!! post count sounds good cuz that is something you can work toward, but longetivity you cannot change.
