How can a person have more than one birthday?
You are an impressive guy...I read a lot of your stuff outside of this forum.
Here is a previous happy birthday (2011)

I have one a year, unfortunately. I can only think of one way to stop that trend, and I'm none to excited about trying it out.

You mean once a year you celebrate the day you were born? You only have one birthday

Re: Happy birthday jmcilhinney!
We call it a birthday. The fact that the word we are using can be interpreted in a literal fashion that makes them not correct is irrelevant to communication. By and large, lots of our words are not technically correct when taken literally, such as "By and large".

I still don't think that sounded peevish. Pedantic, for sure, but not peevish.

Oh come on. There's no way he was just born. Surely he descended from the heavens carried by digital gods? Borne, maybe, but born? Nah!

Isn't that "bayou large"?
Actually I've never understood how 'by and large' ever came to mean anything. It's not even grammatical!

"By and large" is actually a nautical expression, or at least a combination of nautical terms, that pretty much means "into the wind and with the wind". That means that, as an every day expression, "by and large" should mean "in all conditions" but it has somehow come to mean "for the most part".
