[RESOLVED] My ActiveX Control Object keep on crashing my Browser and how do I fix it???
Hello again, it's me: ThEiMp...
I am writing a Webpage that uses an ActiveX Control Object to navigate around the URL of mine, which is right about now on the Internet, too. I have been making some changes to it and then right now I am faced with this problem of mine, which is that when I run my index.htm document and then allow the Control to run as an AddOn. It crashes the Browser, which I am only using Windows Internet Explorer 8.00 on a Windows XP SP3 machine. The ActiveX Control Object, was written by me using Visual Basic 6.00 Enterprise Edition for Windows...
!! Can someone please help me with this problem of mine, that would be great if you could do so, for me !!
!! Thanks in advance !!

Re: My ActiveX Control Object keep on crashing my Browser and how do I fix it???
My guess is you are breaking binary compatibility. Do you have binary compatibility set you are compiling you changes?

What is a binary compatiblity, I have never heard of such a thing, and I've been a computer programmer since 1993!!

It is hard to believe you have programmed for 20 years without encountering an issue with binary compatibilty being broken. Go ahead and google it. It's a very important concept to understand if you are going to be making updates to an existing OCX or DLL.

Well I am not using someone else's OCX or DLL, rather my own. So then there isn't any kind of problems that arise there...

The bottom line is if you are building OCXs or DLLs and you are making changes to them without using the binary compatibility setting you are asking for trouble.
Try reading this along with it's sub categories.

Re: My ActiveX Control Object keep on crashing my Browser and how do I fix it???
Definitely, I ran into an issue with this back in the 90s with VB5. You must use binary compatibility when building with activex objects otherwise when you make a change and recompile it will not be compatible with the previous version which means any program that uses it may crash if a previous version has been installed before. the Binary compatibility option helps to insure the new version is compatible with the older version.
I would think that if you have been programing for a long time and have never heard of this then you are new to making activex objects e.g. Controls/Dlls

Actually I have fixed the problem with the retarded ActiveX Control Object, which was really good. I have also added in a Splash Screen for my Website, which is a bonus, as well. Don't you think???

Not really, I would rather not have any type of splash screen on a website, just slows things down and increases required bandwidth. I also do not allow activex controls in my browser

So now there is the problem with the Control graphically flashing from within the Browser Window. Can someone please help me to make it totally right. Also at the end of the single graphical flash from inside the Browser Window, it restarts the Control, which is rather messy and then it's totally taking up my work from this whole day and then the night before that, too...

Problem: I am getting memory errors, when the ContextMenus are used and then it says that IEXPLORER.EXE cannot write to the specified memory allocation because there is an error inside the memory block number one.
Could someone please help me??? You have to know about the mechanics of memory modules and their programming and how they store and work with data...

Please Note: That this problem of mine is only on my System and then no other Intel, AMD, Apple or even Ciyrix machines, don't have it happen to them. So then there is something wrong with the setup of the Internet Explorer that I'm using and then it's not a programming bug, as such and then the like...
