Resolved [RESOLVED] Recover Laptop Operating System

    Hi,

My laptop is an ASUS Notebook N60Dp Series running Windows 7 and a while ago I went to reinstall the backup of the operating system done using a backup program install by the manufacture. However, the installation got to to the last disk (in this case 4 of 4) and it failed to read the disk and it doesn't look like I can recover the backup. Does anyone know if there is a way of recovering the data? I think I have the manufactures cds/dvds will the drives, etc on them but just in case I don't.

    Thanks,

    Nightwalker

    Re: Recover Laptop Operating System

download ultra iso , il give my serial
download nero any version , il give my serial

    example 1
after u installed select create iso image , put disk on and press button it will create the iso of your disk
remmember to wipe the disc make sure no finger prints are on it + wipe it with damp cloth and cold water or cd cleaner works.

after iso is made re burn it to new cd.

    =======================================================
    example 2

put bad cd or dvd what ever lol in drive create new folder in pc
go in cd drive copy file 1 by 1 till u come to error message cant copy blah blah then ignore that copy rest after u done all
go back to the ones that didnt copy and try them again , get the cd out clean it put it in try it again it works sometimes.

    or
most that works what many people didnt figure out is u may think dam my cd is bad etc but you know most dvd drive all dont read disc same way depending on the brand of your cd drive the quality , try borrow a dvd drive of mate , this really works , get a usb dvd drive that reads at slow speed rate they work the best can recover damaged files.

    Re: Recover Laptop Operating System

From what I can remember I have already tried that and it did not work! I still had the same problem.

tell me exact name of your 4-4 cd il get you it
I can't because I don't know which files/programs would have been put on it because some of them are missing.

I will see if I can't reproduce the problem and post the exact error message here.

No. You will not do any such thing. Unless you want to get banned. And I seriously mean it.

I would highly recommend that you take out time today and re-read AUP if you haven't done it till date.

Sometimes the manufacturer offers a pre-burned set of restore disks for a small fee. You might check their support site.

Yeah, I will do that! Although, I am surprised that when I bought the laptop it didn't just come with the disks anyway! After, I tested the restore disks created by the backup program and finding they were faulty it could have been useful.

    Re: Recover Laptop Operating System

It's a lot easier to restore your laptop if you have the OEM restoration CDs but if you don't have them, you can always try the long approach. That is, manually install the OS, then install any missing drivers and then install any programs that you use. Despite it's the long way, it's also the better way since you don't have to deal with any crapware that come bundled with OEM restoration. You can download Windows 7 legally from digital river (just do a Google search for "digitalrivercontent windows 7 download" and you will find links to download the ISO of your OS. Again, this is a 100% legal download provided by Microsoft. For activation after installation of the OS, you will have to use the product key from the windows sticker of your laptop, so it's critical that you download the same version of the OS that your sticker say it is or it won't activate. For device drivers, visit manufacturer's support page.

That's what I have done but I don't know whether or not there were drivers installed that did not have a disk backup.

Unless it's a really old laptop, chances are you will find all the needed drivers on manufacturer's web site.

Certainly you can find the drivers for your laptop.
    http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrab...rt_Download_30

To minimize the chance of getting driver conflicts, you should install them in this order:
    0. Bios update (optional)
    1. Chipset
    2. Video
    3. Sound
    4. Network
    5. Other remaining devices such as touchpad, camera, memory card reader....
    6. Install applications (MS Office, Adobe reader...) only after you get all the device drivers installed.

    Good luck.

    Re: Recover Laptop Operating System

    Thanks + rep!

    Edit:

I am installing all the software, drivers, etc that I originally received when I bought the laptop. One of the programs that was included on one of the DVDs is "AI Recovery" (I reckon that is the program I was looking for).
