Requesting help copying mp3 files from PC to cell phone
My daughter has an AT&T cell phone. I can tell you more about it, if that's relevant. It is not a smart phone. It does have the ability to play mp3 files.
We have mp3 files on our PC. I purchased a "USB-A Male to Micro USB-B Male Cable" from radio shack. I am using this to connect the phone to the computer. I didn't know what to do the first time I tried to copy files so I went back to Radio Shack and he told me just drag/drop files to the external drive. But, where? There is a folder structure, so there must be some specific folder I need to use. It's the F: drive, and then I have \Join Me with AutoRun.xxx files and an AutoPlay folder. Autoplay expands into \Docs, then \JoinMePlay and \JoinMePlay.exe and \USBPlay.exe, etc. \JoinMePlay has a setup program.
What do I need to run, if anything, to start? When I tried to drag/drop a file, just as a quick experiment, it said the F drive was full. It said I had no free space and it needed 41 MG of space. So obviously I am doing something wrong.
Radio Shack is closed right now or I'd call them. So I'm posting. Thanks if you can help.

if it's not a smart phone, you may not have access to the folder that the media player automatically accesses. However most phones have a file browser. You would have to copy files to a general location and launch the songs from the file browser. The problem with this is that you will probably have to generate a playlist on the computer somehow and put it in that directory if you don't want to have to launch the songs manually after each song stops.

I am not sure how to access what's on the phone. When I connect the phone the to USB cable and the computer, am I accessing the phone? And it says no free space, which is odd.

Surely the phone comes with some documentation on the subject of syncing and such?
It might be that the "F drive" you see is presenting Windows sync and sharing software to be installed on the PC from the phone. Flash memory accessed over USB can be set up to present itself as a read-only device, and this might be what you are seeing. Often these look like a CD-ROM drive to Windows.
I'm not sure what you'd expect from Radio Shack though, most of the people there were working at the mall food court last week.

Oh brother. Good to know! Anyway, I went back yesterday and found out I had no memory card in the phone. Well, why would I unless they told me I needed one when I bought the cable? (Proves your point, I guess). So now that I have a memory card I should no longer get the message "requires 1Mb and zero available" or whatever. I will let you know what happens when I try that. I did not even think of looking in the phone manual; I was looking for cable instructions, so I'll do that if I have any more problems. And then, I'll go to AT&T...

most phones don't give you file access through the usb plug. you usually just get access to the micro-sd card. Does your phone have a micro-sd card slot that is empty?

Probably not as no one before you, like a salesperson, said to get one. Haven't tried again yet, maybe tonight. Thx.
