Wierd IE Problem...
Well here goes, latly I had a mbd/cpu problem and replaced 'em both, after I installed the new mbd/cpu I also put in my old netcard and setup a small lan (2 comps) coax (don't laugh!) network, even before setting up the internet sharing I couldn't connect to the net on my older computer, which before changing mbd/cpu I could, even if I start apache I can't surf to "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

You did reinstall all of the TCP/IP protocols and adapters, right? Can you "ping localhost"?

Yep reinstalled 'em all and I can ping "localhost".
P.S. Now I get an error that apache couldn't get/creat socket 80.

This is a guess, but an error message saying it cannot get or create port 80, which I think I'm right in saying is the default http port, might suggest that the port is already in use by another app. Do you have any tasks running in the background that might be playing webserver?
*Shrug* it's just a thought.

I have norton personal firewall but even if I disable it, still can't surf, it connects to isp but any addr I try I get "can't find server" and my isp is fine.

Hi
I had a very similar problem and ended up having to do a complete hard drive reformat... and THEN (damn it) it was discovered that somehow ZoneAlarm (whether enabled or disabled) kept corrupting TCP/IP settings... even if these were hard coded.. ZA would change them... so, when Zone Alarm was completely uninstalled.. MAGIC! it worked perfectly (well almost)
So maybe Norton is doing something similar... not sure if your prob will be the same but just thought i would let u know
Regards
Stuart

Monday Morning Lunatic
I never had any problems with Apache and ZoneAlarm
Although reinstalling 98 is always a good move

[Sat Jul 21 21:50:58 2001] [crit] (2)No such file or directory: make_sock: failed to get a socket for port 80
And aren't there any ms people around here? they're SUPPOSE to know what their doing.

so let me set this straight. you hooked up to computers together and they are networked and you can't get on the net through the client computer? where does apache fit in?? if you are internet sharing you don't need apache.
