Here's an idea. Why not pick a "standard" computer specification. E.g. Pick a particular video card, sound card etc. and tailor your system towards that (much like the x-box, the indrema etc.). Most of windows problems stem from the fact that they can't control which peripherals people stick in their computers. In the days of the Amiga's and Macs things where much more tightly controlled and therefore much more stable.
