windows 7 user privacy ( Like Linux )
hello every body
is it possible to have a privacy system as like in Linux ( ubuntu or mint etc..) in windows.
in Linux the user profiles , documents saved in the memory partition can not be seen by the others
for example
if i keep a folder in the documents or desk top or any ware same can not be seen / accessed by the other user
this is a fantastic system.
BUT IN WINDOWS
if i save a folder in memory say for example D:\
that can be seen and accessed by almost all the users who logs in.
how can in get this kind of functionality in windows xp & window7

That functionality is built in... the Users folder (which includes the Desktop, and Documents folder, etc) is automatically set up so that only the actual user (and any administrators) can see the files.
If you want more folders, create them inside the Documents folder.

That isn't in memory (RAM, short term storage [cleared when the computer is turned off]), it is a hard-drive (long term storage).

there is a caveat here: you can't have compression enabled. If you do, it doesn't encrypt anything. but yeah it's kind of weird. If you lose your password an administrator can still recover your documents for you.

If you really need to protect your files from other users, NTFS permissions alone won't cut it. Try a third party encryption program such as TrueCrypt.

i agree. It's too easy for a security flaw to give someone administrator access.

It is possible... assuming you mean Folders (as you are implying) rather than Partitions (which is totally different, basically a drive).
However, it is pretty pointless to go for the extra effort when simply creating a sub-folder within your documents folder is much easier, and makes your private folders easier for you to find, and as a bonus hides them from other users.

Just like folder permissions, that is possible in Windows too... you just haven't set Mozilla up to do that.

if you are running one of the server flavors of windows, you can not only customize users folders, you can control how many megs of files they can put in them.
