[RESOLVED] Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
I lost my VB 6 Pro discs. So I will probably have to buy a new set. On eBay I've found both VB6 and VS6. Surprisingly VS6 is cheaper than VB6. If I remember right, doesn't VS6 have a complete version of VB6, as well as C++, J++ and other things. Or is the Visual Basic in VS6 not the same as VB6 Pro or Enterprise.
Thought I'd better check here before I spent the money.

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Sam, Thanks for the reply.
Didn't really find anything in that link that addresses the question of, what version of Visual Basic is in Visual Studio 6. Unless I overlooked something.

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Sorry...VB6 comes in VS6. I have VS6, bought MANY years ago...includes:
•Visual Basic 6.0
•Visual C++ 6.0
•Visual InterDev 6.0
•Visual J++ 6.0
•Visual SourceSafe 6.0
•Visual Studio 6.0 Core Docs
EDIT: there may be some Service Packs not in either of the Original---folks like DataMiser, Rhino, MaxBoucher87, dileattente and Doogle would know more of the specifics.

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Sam,
So, are you saying, if I buy VS6 Enterprise, it will contain VB6 Enterprise?

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Again, not the expert on all that...like some others who will respond shortly probably, but this link is also helpful....not sure if it answers that question, but I'd bet it's safe to say it include Visual Basic 6.0, plus other stuff...
(I got VS6.0 Pro)

Do some more googling and wait for the more knowledgeable on this subject than I.

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Yes VS6 Enterprise contains VB6 Enterprise as well as the other products in VS but keep in mind that the VS disks do not work so well under Windows 7, 8. VB disks will install without issue but VS does not.
I have VS 6 pro and was unable to get the installer to run under Windows 7, I did not spend much time on it but it was complaining about Java VM or something and popping up the known issues message. I ended up getting the standalone VB6 disks and had no problem installing. It may be possible to install VB6 from the VS disks by locating and running the actual VB setup rather than the VS setup, haven't tried that to see. In my case it was easier just to download the VB6 Enterprise Edition from MSDN and use that instead.

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Just to add... I bought a Book from amazon.com (.ca for me) paid 20$ and got a Visual Basic 6.0 cd with it. I think it was Visual Basic 6 for dummies. I lost the book and my cd for some reason i had taped it (with strong tape) and when i removd the tape the sticker (on the cd) came off with it! So my cd does not work anymore, good thing it is still installed on my laptop!

Re: Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
Max....have you tried all zero's on your many-digit code for your VB6 disk? Many years ago, that 'trick' actually worked for me...I had (and still do) the original with code, but I was told by one of my developers that all zeroes would work in some cases. I tried it on a separate desktop and it actually did work...surprised the heck out of me.

Twas either zeroes or ones....now that I think about it, leaning toward remembering it being ones.....:-)

Visual Studio 6 has both an Enterprise and Professional edition. You can see the comparisons here

Or he can make a backup folder on the hard drive with installation files inside so he can install of the hard drive! I have done thing in the past when I have install VB6 because sometimes the setup can't/won't read files off the cd.

Re: [RESOLVED] Visual Studio 6 vs Visual Basic 6
I have created ISO images of all my important CDs/DVDs and have them stored on more than one HD in more than 1 computer. Never know when you may need to use them as a virtual image or burn a new disk. Hard drives are cheap and very large today so best to be ready.
