    My pet peeves...

Things I hate that many VB programmers do:

    1. Use the default names for controls, like Form1 and Text3, etc.
    2. Don't use Option Explicit (I do, now) and use Variants for everything
    3. Ignore the concept of control arrays, where instead they use txtEntry1, txtEntry2, instead of an array of txtEntries.
    4. Try to make their app pretty while ignoring functionality.
    5. People who never indent, indent improperly, or never code paragraph
    6. Using only one BASIC module for a program and stick ALL of their functions in there, instead of creating modules for groups of functions
    7. Using a custom control like a SoftButton or some cool-looking frame when a normal button or a normal frame would do.
    8. People who don't bother to look in the VB help or search the board before posting a question. Never underestimate the VB help and (if you have VB5) VB Books Online!

    Who agrees with me?

i agree with all of them except number 7. what's wrong with making your form look nice? no one wants an app that, although works really well, looks like a heap of sh*t. not that the normal buttons, frames, etc. don't look ok, but if you can fine some that look better, what's the harm in using them instead?

I mean like on an options dialog, there is no reason to use a SoftButton for the Okay button or Cancel button. True, if it makes the program look nicer, easier to use, or more functional, go for it. Appearance is nothing if it makes your proggie more confusing or doesn't add any usefulness.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you

Our company has standards, so you have to do things the correct way, offenders are thrown into Acid.

I resort to writting massive SQL statements, to get my hacking fix

I go with all of those

Flat buttons should be restricted to toolbars where they actually look nice. Normal buttons "flat" seem a bit dodgy.
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".

    2 more pet hates:

When I started working here I took over from a highly paid contractor whose code was absolutely shite!

He used arrays of strings for everyting and didn't comment anything.
