    Angry windows installer

    I've just formatted my laptop and went back to reinstall everything, not the first time doing this but....

    I was coming around to reinstall word 2000 from the OEM CD which was included with the laptop. Setup starts up, then as soon as it finishes "gathering required information" it just quits, no erros or anything. So I don't actually get to the screen where I get to choose Repair, Reinstall or Remove.

    I've used the same disk on my home PC, and looking at the logs created by the installer the only difference is that the laptop has a newer version of windows installer (which I've tried replacing with the older PC one and reinstalling with no success). Also in the log, it does say installation successful

    It seems windows installer is the problem, as the same thing happens with MS Works, which was installed as part of the quickrestore process with the compaq rescue disks.

    Blame quick restore CDs. If you install everything from PROPER CDs, then you should have no trouble.
