    MS Product activation

    i'm totally against MS putting product activation. anyone else with me?

    I'm with ya. It's more likely to annoy legitimate users than copyists, since it's already been cracked

    I am against the idea due to possible inconvenience, but if it stops pirates then I guess I'm for it.

    But you must understand it is there software and we have the right to do with it what they tell us, they are only licencing it to us..... Bah! I can't go on with that, we pay a whole ****load of money for some software and we still have to activate it or we can't use it It really pisses me off. A friend of mine had a firend who had MS office 2k, he formatted his computer many times after his purchase, and after a few activations, MS wouldn't let him activate it anymore, when he called them they basically told him to **** off

    I tried using a similar technology in my VB programs. I received many complaint letters regarding it - so I removed it. I figured that eliminating the unauthorized copying of my programs is probably an unattainable goal especially for those of you out there who are good at cracking these kinds of things.

    By the way, MS product activation has been cracked? What is it? Because I was reading that MS found a few cracks but they were now fixed... is there one that works on the final release of Office XP? Not to worry... I have no interest in pirating XP or making illegal copies of it; I don't even own it yet.

    I'm unlikely to buy Windows XP, and even less likely to get Office since I don't use it (except for Outlook and I can live without that if I bothered to transfer my 100mb mailbox ) now I'm not forced to by school.

    I'm more likely to get Linux than XP, since as a developer I might as well

    I've got SuSE 7.2 Pro, Redhat 7.1, FreeBSD 4.3, and Mandrake 7.1... I paid for SuSE and Mandrake(at that time I had dial up so I couldn't download them) Which version are you gonna get?

    I have Mandrake 8.0 (the 2 CD version). Bought it for £5 (about $8) from linuxemporium.co.uk At the moment it's on my dad's PC across the room because he's learning Linux since they use Unix a lot at work (government contracting - at least someone in the govt has intelligence! ). I might put it on this one at some point.

    This is where that 256MB will come in handy...multiple X sessions, here we come...

    I went to 256 because I only have 3 DIMM slots and couldn't be bothered to find someone to flog the old 128 to - will probably do that when I actually run out of memory

    Oh yeah, Microsoft, if you're reading this, prepare to die. I have 256MB - enough to run Windows. I turn virtual memory off, and sysmon says I have over 100MB free. What happens? Out of memory errors! YOU BASTARDS!!!!
