How do I update VB6? I tried and failed. :(

I tried updating using this patch: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=24417

It extracts an executable, and if I run that, it begins to copy files but after about 3 seconds, it closes out mysteriously. It doesn't give any error message, but if I try to install an additional update ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=7030 ) which requires that I have SP6 installed, it says SP6 isn't installed, so I know it's not working properly.

I'm on Windows 7 and my VB6 directory seems very standard (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio), and I have attempted to run the program as Administrator, so I'm not sure what could be going wrong?

Try right clicking on the setup and choose run as administrator for SP6 if it did not install. You can tell by loading VB and looking at help about it will say if SP6 is installed.

As for the other update don't install it. Just install SP6

Sorry... I should've mentioned that I've already tried running it as Administrator. No worky. I've also tried "troubleshoot compatibility," but no dice there either.

Did you check the help about in Vb to see if it says SP6 is installed?

From what I have heard that other update is buggy and should not be used.

Nothing about SP6 on there that I can see.

You could try installing one of the earlier service packs and working your way up.

I tried SP5, but it didn't work either. Same issue. I get some progress bar on the screen which soon vanishes.
