And that's a sackable offence? What about her manager having a quiet word with her and getting her to change her approach?

I've worked with some people like that and they're a total pain. The really frustrating thing is that they're usually pushy enough to bag the supervisor/manager position when it next comes up.

no. But trying to start a fight with one of the trainers on her first day is. And trust me they had plenty of quiet words with her, but it didnt stop her from actually telling people what to do. Plus she was sexually harassing a guy and he only got her to stop by telling her he was gay and dating another male employee. Personally, i think she's bipolar. She arrives and seemed upset i was working (oh no it's you) but told me she'd miss me when i left.
let's see, what else? not paying attention, running a register but being unable to count change without help from a calculator (she needed a manager when a customer gave her too much money), general moving in slow motion, etc. They had plenty of reasons to let her go. Plus she was originally hired for the sole purpose of keeping the lobby clean, but was never cleaning it. I would have fired her for that reason alone.

Where's she working now and are they hiring?

I had a guy like that on my last team. Very strong willed, always thought he knew best, didn't want to be told what to do etc. I think the difference between him and your colleague was that this guys was also very able, very motivated and a good hard worker.
After a bit of management he turned into one of the best guys I had, although he always needed close management to stop him heading off in his own direction. He probably used up more of my management time than anyone else but it was worth it because he was such a good producer. I actually kinda miss our verbal sparring sessions.

well where i work, due to the fact they are hardly ever fully staffed, iit's pretty hard to get fired unless you do something to a customer.
