Question Stop IE 4.0 window switching

I never upgraded to IE 5.0 after I tried MS' initial 5.0 that messed up my system until I reverted to 4.0.

But anyway, let's say I have two or more browser windows loading various pages. I'm reading from one window and IE jumps the focus to some other window (that isn't even completely loaded). How do I tell IE to stop doing this?

I wouldn't mind as much if the other page was completely loaded. Is there a way to adjust this?

    Thanks

If your going to use IE.. use the latest. You can't seriously complain about software that has been replaced by two newer versions.

Hey guy, I was assuming that IE 4 could turn this feature on and off. So I guess you are telling me that this is yet another bug.

You must have missed the part where I told you that I tried the upgrade to 5.0 and it crashed my system until I went back to version 4. Are you also telling me that the present IE version 5 is actually stable? Remember, this is a MS product

Let's say the present IE 5 is actually stable. Is there a way to make IE (any IE now) not switch to a window when I'm reading from a different window? That was the real question, but specifically for IE 4.

    monte96,
I used to sell upgrades from various companies including MS. Guess what. Sometimes a user doesn't actually need to upgrade, but the software company won't mind taking more of your money if you do upgrade. So if IE 4 serves my needs and IE 5 crashed my system, don't tell me I can't ask if IE 4 has a certain feature. It might even help me decide if I should try an "upgrade". You can't seriously expect me to have confidence in upgrading when I may not even need the new features.

I suppose I'm not getting what the 'feature' your describing is.

If you mean that it switches randomly to another window, I would suspect that you may be infected with a virus or it's a bug in IE.

So are you still using Windows95 too? How about VB4? There are significant things that are better about IE5.5 not the least of which is security. Sure, you can ask questions about it but your asking questions about software that nobody has used for the last 2 years.

Now that I have that out of my system...

Check your settings and see if you have IE set up to "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts". This changes the behavior of IE so that if something is trying to open an IE window it uses an existing instance instead of opening a new one. Sometimes, I find that if a site is particularly bogged down, and I have that option turned off, that it will open a new window to try to get the same page it is already attempting to get.

    monte96,
Let me suggest that you don't reply to posts/questions that you do not understand. Unless you are asking for clarification. Especially if you are going to try to insult the poster due to your own ignorance.

What you are speaking of is the basic function of caching. No, that is not the issue. You missed the mark completely.

You are also off in your "last two years" comment.

Maybe you should tell the Admin of VB-World to remove the forum on "Other Basic" that discusses such dinosaurs as QBasic.

Thanks for the unproductive use of bandwidth.
