 Picture Compression
Hello.
Does anybody know where I can get information for compressing Pictures (like JPG) and how that compressions work?

Look for libjpeg, libpng, libtiff (see a pattern here?  ) - as well as being reference implementations of the file formats, they often have explanations of how they work.

http://www.wotsit.org/ has many file formats explained. There is no code though.

Then I suggest going to another VB site and d/l a custom ActiveX control that can do this for you.

Why use an extra control further to the Winsock control when that already does everything you need? SMTP is incredibly simple - it stems from the days when you typed things in yourself, so it's text based. Run telnet to an SMTP server, with the RFC in hand, and see. I'll drag up some code if I manage to install Access again.

I have a control, that does JPEG Compression, but I want to know how it works. I want to know the algorithms to compress pictures, (or even other Files)...

If you look up the Independent JPE Group there should be some useful techie stuff for you  PS: Watch out for discrete cosine transforms
