Disable/delete VBForums Account.
Not entirely where else I would post this, other than dropping private messages to some of the admin...
Basically for reasons of my own, I need to disable/delete this account and I can't find anything within User CP.
Have I missed something obvious? or alternatively could an admin do the honours.
Thanks

No, you haven't missed anything obvious. You can't delete your account...no member can remove their account once created.
Only site administrators can do that and I can tell you from previous experience that, as a general rule, they won't.
Why do you want your account deleted?

Re: Disable/delete VBForums Account.
We do not remove accounts; however, you are free to abandon your account at any time. You can turn off the email settings in your User CP and thus pretty much disconnect.
As a standard rule, we won't remove posts and other public messages. That would leave holes in threads or force us to also remove posts by other members. This in turn causes other members post counts to go down -- which is unfair to them. There are other reasons for leaving posts as well, but this reason already stated is the primary one.
As Hack stated, we are sorry to see someone say they want to leave. If there is something we are doing that added to this reason, then we ask that you provide the feedback so we can possibly evolve the community to do better going forward.
I will add (for others reading this response) that we are often asked by students and others to remove accounts because they made posts that they want removed so professors and others won't see them. Unfortunately, if others took the time to help, then -- as stated -- it is unfair to them to remove the threads. This is why we always recommend that students ask specific questions rather than asking for completed solutions. Professors use this forum too! This is also why you should never post code that you don't own (such as a company's code).
Even if we were to remove such code, within hours of it going live, the bots and search engines tend to get copies and thus it is out in the wild.
This is a longer response than you likely needed, but I know others will read this thread as well.

That's understandable, I am more after an anonymity from the name OhGreen.
Would a name change to something along the lines of "unknown6342" be possible?

Re: Disable/delete VBForums Account.
Just create a new account using the account name of your choice, turn off your email and don't use OhGreen any more.

I would have to say that it is unlikely that he wants to disassociate with those of us here, but from somebody else who probably knows the OhGreen name. Therefore, the fact that the name is here leaves a trail that he wishes to obscure, which means that somebody must already know the OhGreen name, so switching accounts doesn't serve the purpose.
On the other hand, it also means that he's....uh...hosed.

Is there a vbulletin option that allows a member to change their display name? Naturally can't be bothered researching it, just asking like.

Re: Disable/delete VBForums Account.
Since this thread, I became aware of a thread in CC where the original poster apparently had their user name changed. The reason it appears this way is that all of the posts have one user name, but three people quote those posts, and the name in the quote is a different name from the name on the posts.
On the other hand, the whole thread was many years old and just resurfaced. Has the policy changed, or did that person enter the VB Witness Protection Program?

Re: Disable/delete VBForums Account.
For very specific reasons, we will sometimes make exceptions. Rarely does someone give us a good reason to make an exception, but it does happen. If you catch me in the right mood, then I might also make an exception, but that is highly unlikely to happen
In general, I usually regret agreeing to the change after making them and the same is true of the last name change I made - therefore it is now even more unlikely to happen for others.....
