Buy a linux fro dummies book, or something similar. That way you get the book, learn Linux, and get a decent Linux OS, as most books come with one free.

Go to Linux Emporium or Cheap Linux. They have CDs available at rock-bottom prices

I was on topic The topic is getting a copy of Linux for free. Borrowing money to get a copy which costs about $8 for you (a piddling amount) is a reasonable activity
Anyway, why can't you download it? Just buy a copy. I bought Mandrake 8.0 which is 2 CDs, for £5. That's bloody cheap.

Linux Mall. Most dists are $3.00.
LUG meetings. Go to any local university. They may have an Linux Users Group. There are people there who probably have extra CDs laying around, or may be willing to burn you a copy of the latest download.
Heck, check for 2600 meetings. They may be phreakers/wannabes, but I'm sure they have a member who knows linux and has spare CDs.
