With any luck they'll choose me to measure the effects of alchohol and multi-partner (straight) sex on the human body.

This must be a record for a thread, dragged into the gutter and out again in the space of the first two replies
Personally, I believe there is life out there. I am unsure as to whether they have managed to overcome the limitations of space travel either (And it's not just the time involved in travelling, which planet do you visit, would you have power to slow down, turn around an dhead back, what if you bought disease back with you, how do you know that they aren't hostile?). So they probably haven't visited us yet.

Hey, here's a weird thought: since physics have rules and all, don't you think it would be possible that we're just a big simulation in an alien computer-like thing?
Also aliens are almost certainly NOT anything like you see in movies. In other environments, even if they use our DNA technique, they surely found other ways to survive. Imagine a giant fungus covering a whole planet or a race that can naturaly travel trough space, explores a planet's natural resources and then goes to another one, even if the process takes millions of years... or even a giant creature that absorbs gas planets and consumes them, then travelling to another one...
Just some scary thoughts...

Too much TV Jotaf98?
Mainly I see aliens as today's witches, ghosts, oogie boogies, dragons and other fantastic characters which were created by general fears in the past. I wouldn't call it fiction either.

I believe there is intelligent life somewhere else in the Universe and they're sitting around on a forum like this discussing the same question

Hmm.... looking at Jotaf's signature, sounds suspiciously like not getting drunk enough, and watching The Matrix too much

We're probably the Aliens we talk about
Use
writing software in C++ is like driving rivets into steel beam with a toothpick.
writing haskell makes your life easier:
reverse (p (6*9)) where p x|x==0=""|True=chr (48+z): p y where (y,z)=divMod x 13
To throw away OOP for low level languages is myopia, to keep OOP is hyperopia. To throw away OOP for a high level language is insight.
