PHP Certification
Hi guys
I would like to get a certification in PHP. So, what's recognized certifications for PHP ? How much will it cost ? Will I be able to participate in the exam online ?
Does anyone in here hold any certifications in PHP?
Thanks in advance

Re: PHP Certification
I just took that quiz for fun. I got 15 out of 20 on the PHP quiz.
A lot of programmers out there consider PHP to not be a serious language. That's simply not true. There's a lot of stuff being built on PHP. There are also frameworks available to ease and speed up development.

Re: PHP Certification
I probably wouldn't bother unless there's a position you want that requires/recommends one (in which case it should specify which one to obtain). I've never seen and/or had a need for one.

I have seen that, certain companies would give more weightage to those have certifications in languages. Say, for VB, it will be MCP and like that.
That's why I thought about getting one for my CV

Yes, but that's VB. I'm saying I've never seen a need for one in PHP. Never seen a job requiring or asking for one, never seen one listed on resumes that I've reviewed (or on those of colleagues), don't personally know anyone who's got one (or feels that it's worthwhile to mention), etc.
Certs are only valuable if someone cares that you have them. I wouldn't bother with them unless you know there's someone who'll care.

Re: PHP Certification
Here's where it might matter: I have two candidates... both have the same or similar enough experience. They both have the same education/training... The difference is that one has certification... that's how it carries weight... but other than that, certs are virtually worthless. They used to mean something, but then places started offering boot camps, training camps, and now there's so many people certified in this or that, that it's all but lost some meaning.

Re: PHP Certification
If I were to hire a beginner, a certification would prove that the beginner has demonstrated interest in his chosen career. For a an experienced candidate, I wouldn't care.

Re: PHP Certification
Really? I'd be leerly of certifications from anyone that has no experience. All it means is that they were able to pass the tests. The original intent behind certifications was so that people could how they had a demonstrable grasp of what they do. In other words, you should only be able to pass the certifications if it was something you did every day. And that's when all these *camps started showing up guaranteeing passing the certs... now it seems like everyone and their brother or cousin is certified... There is still some value in it... but I think it's lost most of its value.

Re: PHP Certification

Probably goes without saying from what I've already posted here, but if I were hiring for a PHP programmer position, I would place no weight whatsoever on certs. If two candidates were otherwise equal but one had certs, then I have two equal candidates: bring 'em both in for interviews.
