    Tried a little.

About 20 or so years or so ago, I had a bridge partner who dealt in Marijuana. I tried it 3 or 4 times and, to the best of my knowledge, it had no effect.

When LSD first turned up about 50 years ago, I considered trying it. Then I decided to wait for more information about its long term effects. When a friend of mine had a bad trip and almost killed himself, I changed my mind about trying it.

A few years later while vacationing in Arizona, I tried something extracted from mushrooms. After all, the Indians in Southwest USA had been using the mushrooms for over 1000 years without disastrous consequences. To this day I do not know whether I experienced a delightful hallucination or had some of the best sex I can remember. I left for the west coast the next day and never again encountered the group of college kids who shared my experience.

Since I do not like the idea of not being in control of my own mind, I have always avoided drugs except for the above experiments. I only consume 3-5 glasses of wine a week because I have a low tolerance for alcohol. It only takes a few glasses of wine to make me a very happy drunk.

    "smoke"?

The thread started about smoking drugs and there are already people mentioning alchool and inhaling, so I'll give my little experiences about drugs.
I only smoked a few cigarretes and wheed (spelling?), just to try it. As for alchool, I enjoy drinking a bit once in a while, everything except beer and white/green wine.

I didnt notice any special effect with cigarretes, only when a smart ass told me to swallow the smoke. Anyway, I dont like tabacco. My own mother smokes every time I see her, so I naturaly hate it.

I'm translating from portuguese the word "ganza" which I think it is wheed. I may be wreong though.
When I tried it, it didnt seem to be addictive (maybe because it's a natural drug?), instead I turned hysterical, laughing a lot and loosing my balance a bit.

I dont consider alchool a drug. It can turn out to be addictive to some people, but to me is just to get warmer and not so depressed.

Never had sex, so I never experienced it under drug/alchool influence; however, maybe I'll give it a try... I dont entirely control my fate.

Above all this, I think anyone should try drugs, but never consuming them as in a habit!

BTW, there's a question in my mind: Are there any natural and unnatural drugs? By unnatural, I mean human made/altered. When I often hear about an addictive drug, I usually hear about a chemical substance ended in "-ine" as in caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, heroine... Is this a coincidence?

    Why do you say that?

I was commenting drugs not drink or sex.

I drink more than I ought to, have an active sex life but gave up smoking 10 years ago.

I've done a lot of drugs over the past ten years,
speed, coke, LSD, ecstasy and consistantly weed.

A lot of my friends don't and never have taken any drugs including tobacco and verry limited use of alcohol.

My view is they work for some but not for others.

The only thing I don't understand is when poeple slagg off drug users but have never taken them themselves??

Its like hating icecream without ever trying it. Irrational views created by an intollerant society.

I love weed, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm, a better person for it.

Maybe sometimes I over use but most people have been so drunk thy can't remmeber a thing at least once.

i don't wanna sound like a bore, but i dunno why anyone would want to take drugs. i ocassionally drink alcohol, but usually just cider cos most other alcoholic drinks taste like what i imagine piss tastes likes. blurgh!

as for things like smoking tobacco or cannabis, that's your choice, but why mess up your body, knowing that it's likely to give you lungs full of tar, heart disease, or cancer, over something so stupid like a cigarette? i find it to be a sad thing when people put a craving or fitting in with the crowd before their life (the most important thing you have). some even say "well i'm gonna die one day". if that's the case, why not just step out in front of a bus later on today? morons.

granted, some people smoke all their life and never get a disease (although they will smell bad, look bad, and sound bad), but it's a pretty dumb risk to take.

    ok, rant over

    Hi nullus,

there is a reason for taking druggs and it isn't the down side. Its the amazing feelings they create.
Nothing else can toch the sensations of some highs. To me experience is far greater than life expectancy.

Live fast, Die young, and leave a beautiful corpse.

When I was at college, a friend of a friend died at 23 from lung cancer yet she wasn't a smoker.

It was all passive smoking. My Grandfather smoke like a chimney all his life yet he died at 87.

There are no guarantes so I want to experience as much as I can, that goes for the real world as well as drug induced comas.

    Its not a big deal.

But it is horses for corses!

    ok, sorry

well, like i said, it's your choice to take drugs, and if you wanna risk your life over something so petty as getting totally off your head, then don't moan when you're lying in some hospital bed with tubes coming out of every orifice.

personally, i think your kind of attitude to life is sad, as you may never get to experience what life is really about if you carry on like that, but it is your life, so what the **** do i care

    Red face Drugs

Just like Guv I hate the idea of losing control of my mind. That's the most important thing I have got.
I genuinely believe that hallucinagens (Cannabis and LSD) do not make you lose control of you mind, indeed, they free your mind. Initially many people do not know what to do with this new found freedom and think they have lost control but once you get used to it you have more control over your mind than when you're sober.

I dont consider alchool a drug. It can turn out to be addictive to some people, but to me is just to get warmer and not so depressed.
People often say things like 'Alcohol & Drugs' like they're two different things. No they're not. We just view them differently because alcohol has been around a lot longer (in Western society) and is part of tradition. Alcohol is actually more dangerous (statistically speaking) than many illegal drugs.

as for things like smoking tobacco or cannabis, that's your choice, but why mess up your body, knowing that it's likely to give you lungs full of tar, heart disease, or cancer, over something so stupid like a cigarette? i find it to be a sad thing when people put a craving or fitting in with the crowd before their life (the most important thing you have). some even say "well i'm gonna die one day". if that's the case, why not just step out in front of a bus later on today? morons.

granted, some people smoke all their life and never get a disease (although they will smell bad, look bad, and sound bad), but it's a pretty dumb risk to take.
I would like to point out that cannabis can be eaten rather than smoked and therefore the harmful aspects avoided. It just takes longer to take effect.

Why do you think it's about fitting in with the crowd? Anyone who starts for those reasons should think twice but most people don't start for that reason.

Is taking drugs any different from deciding to take up a danger sport as a hobbie? You're still taking a risk but everything we do is about balancing risk with pleasure. If you get enough pleasure from something then you can justify any risk. It is merely down to a personnal descision.

Magic Mushrooms are hallucinogens and they're legal (until you do anything with them that is ) and they can cause you to have blackouts for up to 10 years later I don't really consider that to be in control of your mind.

Is taking drugs any different from deciding to take up a danger sport as a hobbie? You're still taking a risk but everything we do is about balancing risk with pleasure. If you get enough pleasure from something then you can justify any risk. It is merely down to a personnal descision.
a lot of it is to do with fitting in with the crowd. how do you think most people start smoking in the first place? most people nowadays start when they're about 13 or something, and do it because all the other kids are, and it's considered cool. and at that age, they're unlikey to think twice anyway.

your point about danger sports is a fair one, but drugs are less about the risk and more about messing about with your body chemistry to make you think you're feeling good, whilst danger sports are about achieving a natural and haelthy thrill by pushing yourself to the limits. danger sports are also usually controlled, and there is little risk of actually dying.

btw, i actually think cannabis should be legalised/decriminalised.

This is not something I've heard of (and I know lots of people who have taken mushrooms over the last 10 years.

Besides, I'm talking about the primary effect of the drug not potential secondary side effects.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're perfectly safe for everyone to go and use. They must be handled with care. I personnally believe that the human race isn't ready for LSD. As far as cannabis is concerned, whilst being innacurate to call it totally harmless, it is probably the safest drug going (including things like cafine).

Could well be. I thought for one moment that LSD (being artificial) would be an exception but I can't remember what it stands for. It stands for something like : LySergic Dyathiamide.

Yes, some people start this way but as I have already said, you should not start for these reasons.

your point about danger sports is a fair one, but drugs are less about the risk and more about messing about with your body chemistry to make you think you're feeling good, whilst danger sports are about achieving a natural and haelthy thrill by pushing yourself to the limits. danger sports are also usually controlled, and there is little risk of actually dying.
There is no difference between danger sports and drugs. People like danger sports because of the surge of adrenaline that they get from the 'rush' of danger. This acts like a drug (by adjusting the body's chemistry). Ok, it naturally occurs within the body and is not deliberately introduced but so what?
Whilst many drugs are about 'feeling good', hallucinagens aren't (not entirely anyway). I know it's a cliche but they're about altering your mind. Hallucinagens work by breaking down the rigid patterns in the brain and allowing new or different patterns to form freely. This is a liberating feeling and far beyond (mentally speaking of course) any sensation you get from an adrenaline rush.
