PC: can't find slave drive, sort of
Dell PC, IDE, 80 GB, Slave drive from HP PC.
Dell, BIOS , drive displayed
Boot Dell, OS finds drive, no drive in My Computer
Control Panel > System, drive displayed
Properties > Details--displayed
* So the OS sees the drive, but there is no access to the drive.
I want to recover data from the drive...photos
Any ideas why 1/2 the OS sees the drive and 1/2 does not?
Also, tried to different PCs--Dell, Compaq...same
Thanks

Have you set the Master correctly (that is with a slave)?
Edit:
Are you able to check on a different operating system that the drive isn't actually dead?

Have you checked the jumper settings? use cable select on both or set one as master and one as slave.
Also try reinstalling the drive under device manager.
Why can't you access it, does it give you a reason?
Have you tried accessing it through ms-dos?
You might need to take ownership of the drive and contents under the security\ permissions tab in properties. (Only xp pro, don't think xp home supports advanced sharing.)
If your question is answered then mark your thread RESOLVED and give credit to whoever answered it.
If you fail, try and try again, its the only way to success.
