Arrow Think out of the box

An old Italian gentleman lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard.
His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

    Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot.
I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.
    Love,
    Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

    Dear Papa,
Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried.
    Love,
    Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.
That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

    Dear Papa,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now.
That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
    Love you,
    Vinnie

actually tomatos are planted in low tranches, not really a problem, your story would make more sense if he were to need to relocat a tree.

I'd say it has more to do with soil type. That story would work fine in clay rich areas.

Do not count the number of teeth of a cow, which someone have gifted you !
[It's a proverb in Malayalam, and I translated it to English.]

Why I used this in our context is, I gave you something to laugh. What you have to do is, to laugh it loud. Not to become a surgeon and do postmortem to what I have given you.

Interesting. We have an expression: Do not look a gift horse in the mouth.

The two are obviously related, yet intrinsicaly different.

Re: Think out of the box

Well, moti probably has a section of his book devoted to growing tomatos, that's probably where his expertise stems from.

The English version of that proverb is: Do not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Oh! Never thought it would have an English version (much better than my grammatically poor version )

Re: Think out of the box

Actually, most of old proverbs have their versions in many and possibly all languages. And in each language they are considered very old and traditional. Who knows where and when they came to be.

Along with the joke enjoyed in this thread, a little information about the phrase involved.

The phrase can be found as far back as 400 CE, with the same meaning as today no less. It was spoken by a man named St. Jerome, when he said:

"Never inspect the teeth of a gift horse."

There are those who are not aware of St. Jerome's early usage of the phrase, and believe that that an English writer named John Heywood from 1546 used it first, in A dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the prouerbes in the Englishe tongue:

"No man ought to looke a geuen hors in the mouth."

Re: Think out of the box

    Ok

Here I found another one sent by my friend:
    ---

The Angel Gabriel came to the Lord and said, "I have to talk to you. We have some Malayalees up here in Heaven&they are causing problems.

They're swinging on the pearly gates, my horn is missing, they are wearing lungis and saris instead of their white robes, they are riding Toyota Corolla's, Nissan Sunny&privileged ones driving Prado&Mercedes instead of the chariots, and they're selling their halos to people for discount prices.

They refuse to keep the stairway to Heaven clear, since they keep crouching down midway eating samosas and drinking chai. Some of them are even walking around with just one wing&brewing illicit liquor!
    "

The Lord said, "Malayalees are Malayalees . Heaven is home to all my children. If you want to know about real problems, give Satan a call."

Satan answered the phone, "Hello? Damn, hold on a minute." Satan returned to the phone, "OK, I'm back. What can I do for you?"

Gabriel replied, "I just wanted to know what kind of problems you're having down there. ". Satan says, "Hold on again. I need to check on something. "
After about 5 minutes, Satan returns to the phone and said, "I'm back. Now what was the question?". Gabriel said, "What kind of problems are you having down there?" Satan says, "Man I don't believe this! Hold on."

This time Saitan was gone at least 15 minutes. He returned and said, "I'm sorry Gabriel, I can't talk right now. These Malayalees down here have put out the fire in hell and are trying to install air conditioning!"

    ---
I have added links to certain terms, that I found it would be tough for you to understand.

Re: Think out of the box

Not in the US. The reason you would look a horse in the mouth is to check the condition of the teeth, which gives you an idea of the condition and age of the horse. There isn't any point in us checking the condition or age of a cow, because no cow in the US lives long enough to age before becoming hamburger.

That reminds me of something that happened on the hike this summer. At one point, I encountered a bunch of cows ambling about in the woods. There didn't appear to be anybody around, and I hadn't crossed any fences in days, so those cows had just been left out there to fend for themselves. That's a pretty common practice in the west. Cattle are taken out into the mountains to fatten up during the summer, then they are collected in the fall to be taken to lower areas or feedlots. That got me thinking about the changing roll of cattlemen and ranchers. The west is still full of stories about cowboys. There are rodeos, roudups, and even a few drives, but most people who work with cows aren't really doing much of that stuff, and most of the traditional cowboy activities are now confined to shows. The modern day person involved with raising cattle does little more with them during the summer than truck them to the woods and let them go. Dairy cows are treated differently, of course, so this only applies to beef cattle, but you can hardly call those people cowboys anymore. It would be more accurate to call them a hamburger helper.

Re: Think out of the box

    Interview:
6 beautiful HR Questions !!! Always "THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX"

Here are some of the typical HR questions asked to find out if the candidates have "out of box" thinking capability

    Question 1:

"What will you do if I run away with your sister?"

The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match for my sister than you, sir."

    Question 2:

Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What if one morning you woke up & found that you were pregnant ?

I will be very excited and take a day off, to celebrate with my husband. (Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why should I think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked.)

    Question 3:

Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate, then he asked "What is before you?"

Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea" and got selected.

(You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before him?.
Answer: The question was "What is before you U? (-alphabet). Reply was "TEA" T (- alphabet).

    Question 4:

Where Lord Rama would have celebrated his "First Diwali"?

People will start thinking of Ayodya, Mithila [Janaki's place], Lanka etc...

But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna Killing Narakasura. In Dusavataar, Krishnavathaar comes after Raamavathaar.

So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!

    Question 5:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

    He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

    Question 6:

The interviewer asked the candidate "This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u have kept your files."

Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and said that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked "how did you decide that this is the central point of this table?", then he answers quickly that "Sir you are not supposed to ask any more question, as it was the last question as you promised .....

And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness.

This is what Interviewer expects from the Interviewee. ....

    "THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX"
