There's no such thing as 50/50 chance.
And here's proof. Think about all the times you had to plug in a USB cable or device

You can only turn it two ways. Of all those times, how many times did you turn it the right way around? I think I only get it right 10% of the time. I hate them. Why couldn't they make them asymmetrical, like the USB Mini for example

Re: There's no such thing as 50/50 chance.
Well, usually if you look at the USB cable, when properly oriented, the USB symbol will be displayed. the reverse side will be blank... I've found this to help ... orient the cable with the USB symbol upright, it will be properly oriented. Except for my Blackberry charging cable. In that case the USB symbol is on the reverse with the Blackberry on the obverse... which only threw me a couple times before I caught on. Now I get my USB cables correct 95% of the time.

Yeah, but most of the connectors on devices I have (computers etc) the plug is vertical. Bugs the hell out of me.

Even if it's vertical and you use your eyes and check for the symbol first and then look into the port to verify its shape then you will get it right 99% of the time, unless you have other issues.

i agree with baja_yu, most of times there's no 99% right that USB will get plug in right position.

I wish someone would invent a connector that works no matter which way it's plugged in.

Re: There's no such thing as 50/50 chance.
For vertical plugs, orient the cable so that the usb symbol faces you... I deal with both... again, the only one that doesn't fit this setup is my Blackberry cable...
Maybe it's just me then, but I've never really had much of a problem with it.What ever.

If the situation was like this

Then sure, that approach is good. But it's never like that. Most of the times I have to get under the table or bend over and around the case barely seeing the connector. It's more like this computer kama sutra

What I do is, I would try inserting it one way. If it didn't worked, 'll try it in the opposite way. My system's back contains about 4 or 6 vertical ports whereas the front contains two horizontal ports.

A very interesting idea. Though those springs would need attention. When you think of batter holder or anywhere else they are used, they are usually the first to break.

Well, if you flip a coin, there's a 50/50 chance
it will come up heads.

i'm sure the weight of the sides would decide the chance of which side comes up.

They have obviously carried out only a small number of assignments. To see any real proof, each experiment must be carried out at least 198,333,874,771,890 times. That's where you slowly see a trend emerging which would eventually lead you to a 50:50 chance output. Most people die till they can reach this number. So it's safer to assume that 50:50 is the correct answer.

Based on your next post being so soon after, I assume the post became visible as soon as you reloaded this page (which might have been automatic after the notice was displayed).
If so, the issue is simply that the AJAX code for this site that runs in your browser didn't get the response it expected from the server (most likely due to a temporary connection fault somewhere between you and the server), so went for the default "safe" response.

Re: There's no such thing as 50/50 chance.
Si
Thanks for that.
I have been experiencing some recent slowness in my ISP
connection speed, so perhaps AJAX detected that and
made the assumption you mentioned.
