The HP 500 I mentioned above has a capacitive digitizer for finger touch and a second "active" digitizer for a (special) stylus.

Capacitive sensor digitizers can't really be very high resolution by their nature from what I've read. Most pre-iPhone era touch/stylus phones and specialized tablet/slate devices used a resistive sensor digitizer that doesn't have the same problems but requires pressure instead of merely presence.
