If that were to be true, it would mean that the leaves are generating a current, which should be measurable. This could be something like a potato battery, though more likely it is a hoax. Were it true, that would seem to be a substantial amount of current, so perhaps those trees ought to be wired up.

agree... either way i wouldn't stand by my battery holding two leaves over it, waiting for it to load... lol

Yes, of course, I'd create a little cradle for the battery, and a couple clamps to hold the leaves. The whole thing could be built off of a hobbyists third-hand tool.
For anything like this to work, there would have to be some form of complete circuit, which doesn't appear to be the case. Perhaps the person holding the leaves is critical, in which case, it might not do to substitute a metal clamp. If that were a case, then I see a whole new career path opening up for English majors.
