Signatures
Peoples signatures are getting way too long, i think there should be restrictions. Like no formatting other than bold and italics. And a limit on the amount of total characters. And like only 4 carriage returns at the most. What do you think?

I feel a personal direction coming on I was just thinking a few days ago I'd better shorten this one...
PS: Change the font in your sig, that one's disgusting and blocky

Hey Chimp
I think you are totally right, but I think your way to get attention is a little rude. It is really annoying to have to go over your signature before reading the next post. (well I guess that's excactly what you want, but I love this forum for it's good well uhmm ambience.)
so please can you cut that a little.
Just give us a link to the song instead of writing those tabs down. (I wish I could read and play something like that)

Ive been asking to have sig limits for months now, and everyons ignored it. I put this signatire up, no one ignores it. This sig is only temporary, the first 3 small lines are my real sig and it will be back to that in a short while. The song it there just to make it long and obnoxius.

I think really long signatures are bad, but I also think signature limits are bad. Instead, people should just be encouraged to have shorter signatures.

The only problem with that though, is that it doesnt work.

If large signatures bother you so much, why don't you just shut off signatures?
Restrictions on signatures are bad because they can prove to be a bit too restrictive. And they can also be a real pain.
If people generally don't like the length of someone's signature, eventually it'll show and the person will probably want to change it. If it's just a handful of people that don't like it, then the signature's probably okay because the majority of people don't care.
I think you're too sensitive about the lengths of signatures, especially seeing as you blew your own signature up so large. It's sending mixed messages. You're against large signatures, so you blow your own signature up to be larger than any other signature in the forum so that you can attract attention to your cause. Obviously, you think there's an exception to the rule, otherwise your signature would never be so large.

The person with the largest signature is the one who is the most against large signatures..
How's that for irony?

If you read the beginning posts in this thread you'll see that he did that purposely to prove to people how annoying long signatures are.
Thanks in Advance!

I know.
What I'm saying is that he feels that his long signature is justified. Meaning that his long signature is ok by him. If he didn't think that, he wouldn't have done it. So this means there would be a good reason to make a long signature, according to him.

No, i dont think my signiture is justified. But thats the reason i did it. As soon as there are limits, itll go away.

If you don't think it's justified, then just get rid of it. You put it there for a reason. Apparently, that reason was good enough in your mind for it to be there. Therefore you think its existence is justified.
I am very much against limits on signatures, especially the ones you posted...
Why don't you just set vbworld to hide signatures from you? Then you don't have to worry about long signatures anymore..
Maybe an option can be added to truncate long signatures and limit font sizes, but only for the people that want that... That way, people who don't care can see all signatures as the owner of the signature intended, and people who are so offended by long signatures get to see a shortened version.

I agree with Tygur. Also, the way to lead is by setting an example. Could u imagine if america would promote morality by having the president sleep with.. uh.. bad example. OK, how about if America would fight drugs by electing presidents that did.. uh... how about... hmmm... You know what chimpface, u got a good point!!!

Which side are you on?
You were doing good. Do you think an imoral president did anything to prevent people from being immoral?

You want to see a *really* annoying signiature? Look at smashtheqube's... It's a pity speech, a so-called 'funny-quote' and about ten lines worth of advertising for his company. It just makes you want to smash something... *grr*

It's a free (vb) world. If sigs annoy you, then turn them off. I don't want to be involved in a forum that starts introducing rules for everything every time a member complains. I think this forum has an excellent balance between responsibility and control as it is. Why change that?

The trouble is SD, people can't always be trusted with responsibilty.
If I turned off sigs, then I may miss something interesting/funny a person has put in. There are a few people with way over the top sigs which ruin it for everybody else, that above anything else is just bloody selfish.
"I want a long sig and screw the fact everyone else is bothered" is their attitude and it stinks.
I'm turning them off, I've had enough.

Yeah Chris, it's annoying, but it isn't the end of the world. There's a lot more things going on in the world to get annoyed about. Sig length isn't one of them.
I like this forum because people can post whatever they want. Why should my personal preferences be forced upon another person. Yes, some of the sigs are a bit large, but I can live with that, it isn't going to cause me half as much worry as pollution, crime, racism, sectarianisim, poverty, religion, price of petrol, MP's salary's etc. In the greater scheme of things it's something that is very minor.
I have gone through 3 ISO 9000 audits with various companies. For those of you who have never had this "joy", ISO 9000 is the standard which basically says there should be rules for everything. It sucks more than a $100 *****. If we start introducing rules, (which new members are supposed to know) then we end up in a boring dead end forum.
I say leave people to there own devices. If someone annoys you with there sig, then you can ignore them (using the option provided).
Chimp's signature is a pathetic attempt to raise hatred against a group of people. If he thought that long sig's where such a great crime, then who gave him the right to be the exception to the rule. This is the equivelent of someone going drink-driving and killing someone to highlight how bad drink drivers are.....
.... except that the cause he is championing is so minor that it would be more like me going round whistleing tunelessly to highlight how tuneless people shouldn't be allowed to whistle in public...

True, true
Why should my personal preferences be forced upon another person
That is exactly what they're doing though!
Anyway, it's not that bad I suppose. I can live without seeing anyone's sig. It's just annoying that I have to get rid of all of them because of the few.

He's talking about your rule. You're proposing a rule that you feel everyone should be forced to follow. But it seems that you consider yourself an exception to the rule because you went ahead and broke it.
By the way, thank you for shrinking the signature.
