Well, this is really a VB site, secondarily addressing C#. Are you sure you have the right place?

My concern is that you wouldn't get the broadest range of answers here. There must be tons of IDEs and editors for writing PHP.

Well I don't know about the best, but I've used zend studio and for the little I've used it for it's been a very good experience. The downside is that unless you're zen certified it will cost you some bucks.

Expression web also supports php if I'm not mistaken. In fact I believe it's got very good support for intellisense.

Others free of course are eclipse and netbeans, but I don't know how good they're for it (although zend is basicly eclipse with some plugin or something, I'm not sure)

Dreamweaver, Notepad++, Eclipse and Zend are the ones most people I know use.

Re: Best IDE for Web Development

Most of the devs I know simply use a text editor (Notepad2, Notepad++, Vim, etc.) and a local server setup (such as XAMPP) for testing.

If they're going to use an IDE, then like kfcSmitty said: Dreamweaver and Eclipse are popular.

Well, this is really a VB site, secondarily addressing C#. Are you sure you have the right place?
There are some knowledgeable web developers hanging around in the PHP and "HTML etc." forums.
