    Polarized Glasses and Driving

Do polarized glasses help in driving during day/night? Are they recommended for driving?

Can I use the same polarized glasses for my computer work as well as for driving?

For driving during the day, I can't recommend enough of them. For night, I wouldn't advise wearing them.

I have polarized lenses that transition in different light scenarios. I don't wear them at night, but they are very useful when at dusk or dawn when the sun is on the horizon.

You can get prescription windscreens now (windshields for American readers). I believe they also have polarising filters built-in.

Problem is that is what if you own a car for 13 years & your prescription changes 4 times?

I'm sure the cost of a prescription windshield isn't cheaper than a regular windshield.

I used to own a pair of polarised glasses but they were way to cold to be practical.

In addition to the polarised glasses I also had a hat which slowly melted.

    It was my Polarised Cap

Varifocals - the top of the glass is focused for nearby objects, the bottom for distant objects. Work the problem ppl, you guys are meant to be engineers for heaven's sake.

I still don't see how they would work... plus I'm rather tall... so I'd only be able to see close objects... which have never been a problem... it's distance I have problems with... Also, can they be adjusted per driver? Like with a his and hers setting? For those of us that have a life and therefore a family?

Also, Wossy - you're problems is that the issue is a HARDWARE PROBLEM... we're SOFTWARE engineers... sheesh...

American readers can ignore the whole issue: We are already sufficiently polarized for any eventuality.

Do you mean to imply there's a risk of underestimating any imminent danger even if it's glaring in your eyes (or not, if, as you say, you are polarized) ?

I was refering to our current political climate, which is highly polarized. I wouldn't say that we underestimate any imminent danger, we just misunderestimate them.

    Re: Polarized Glasses and Driving

An update: While shopping for polarized glasses, I happened to get a free eye checkup. The result is I have a -0.75 eyesight correction (?) in my left eye and a whopping (?) -3.75 in my right eye. So cancelled the order for sunglasses and replaced it with ordinary glasses (with anti-reflective coating) at a slightly higher price.

Wow! That was an experience, and unlike at a dentist's, it was a much better experience! Sadly no cute girls to perform the eyesight test on.

Wonder how many people would go for regular eye checkup if the opticians, instead of using the Roman alphabets, used a few scantily clad models, situated at the right distances, while the girl at the end of the line could be even more scantily clad. I can visualize how men will jump into the optician's and even pay for just getting the eyes tested!
