    Django book

    Hello all,

    @Mods,
Sorry, if this post doesn't belong here. I was not sure where to put this and also I need some urgent answer to my question. If there is some other appropriate place for this thread, please feel free to move it.

I am looking for some Django resources (more specifically books/ebooks). The minimum help I need is to learn Test-driven Django development. Most resources I found have minimal to absolutely no sections dedicated to TDD.

It would be nice if it starts with Hello, World and focus on creating smaller applications to demonstrate Django features rather than creating one big e-commerce application step-by-step. Although I would not mind such step-by-step book, but it should not be something that goes too fast without explaining anything.

A good example is this ROR book. Although it is step-by-step, it focuses on TDD and explains features and gems in detail.

    Thank you

Sorry to be off topic (how I love to say this *muhahahaha*), I once watched a movie where the lead character was called Django (maybe the movie, too!). If you were talking about this Django he would more likely have said "F***, world!", than "Hello, World!".

Yes, I already went through it. In my opinion, I didn't find that tutorial very useful. In fact, I found this online book, djangobook.com better than that so called official tutorial.

Also, one thing I noticed is that every tutorial starts off with using database without detailing on server-side features first. I personally find this difficult to grab, although I agree that DB is integral part of any Django app and every resource would need a dedicated section.

I would not mind that same person teaching me how to display that onto a webpage using Python and Django framework. :P

lol, I never got around to learning Python (though I wished to), and I am trying to move away from coding into higher planes, so I doubt if I shall ever acquire enough skills to teach you Django. But if you at all get to the point where you can print "Hello, World!", I can probably tell you how to modify it to display "F***, world!", including the three astericks!

We had a song "Maango maango maango ..." in one of our Bollywood movies, many years ago. Moti, do you watch bollywood movies?

I watch'em at a rival's place when they are on, I like the fight scences, and the simple plots. as for the dancing well, I have no opinion.

At a rival's place? What gives?

I agree with you about the songs, I hate them too. What I can't fathom is what on earth do you like about the fighting sequences and the plots? None of them have yet appealed to my senses yet.

Last bollywood film I watched "Bheja Fry" was copied by Hollywood "Dinner for schmucks".

And in the true tradition of chit-chat this post has nothing to do with Django, but the thread has been derailed.

We used to like those sounds (well, not exactly but whatever...) when we were kids.

Abhijit, if Bheja Fry indeed was a copy, at least it was a good one. I kinda enjoyed that movie, going on a different track than the same beaten ones.

Obviously I missed a word while typing. I can attribute that to not having enough naps.
