Annoying Members
The forums have been erupting into arguments lately, and people are being mean. I think it is time we let those members who are annoying know that they are annoying, so they can maybe reconsider their tactics. I, for one would like to know if somebody finds something i do/did annoying, so I can stop/prevent myself from repeating such actions.
Additionally, This would be a good place to mention helpful/funny/entertaining members to let them know they are doin a good job, and tell em, "keep up the good work!"

Sorry, I'll rephrase. I find people who solely arse-lick Megatron and Matt Gates annoying. As you point out there are a lot of people who put just as much effort into helping people, but never get any recognition (which irritates me)
To name but a few (General VB'ers):
Microbasic
jjortiz
crptcblade
Aaron Young
Tygur
HeSaidJoe
chrisjk
Joacim Andersson
MidgetsBro
RyeBread
Yes you did see me in that list...
And Jethro, Beacon and I do a pretty good job of patrolling the DB forum too...
If we solely relied upon the afore-mention megatron and gatesey to answer questions, there wouldn't be much of a forum.
And the MOST irritating thing of all
Subject: I bet only Megatron can Answer this one
or
Subject: This is really difficult!! Megatron, please help!
or
Subject: Matthew Gates, this is one for you!
What are they saying?? The rest of us are so *****ing stupid we couldn't possibly know the answer?!?!

Yes, :'( that was mine. That one even stumped Megatron! Not a single person understood that question (which was pretty straightforward) the 1st time around. And then, they got even more confused when I tried to explain it. And the actuall real answer turned out to be "no".

Good Ol' Platypus
There are a lot of people that dont get recognition because they havent been around long enough.
I think in order to make VBW an unbiased community, post counts on posts and member types should be removed. They should only be viewable through the profile. This way we can all get the same recognition.
And for the post counts, of Fox's (not trying to be mean!!) 1200 or some amount posts, 1100 are "see my site for tutorials." The reason I'm not cracking the whip down on this one is because Fox and some other people make tutorials and they show them to people. I'm trying to do that too, but I try to make some one time code stunts for people whenever I see their posts (I always do this).
On top of that, people only 'recognize' Megatron, Kedaman, Fox etc.'s code etc. and act like the others posts never occurred.
This happened to me once:
Code:
[user thread: I need to know BitBlt]
[10000000 post maniac]: See my site for tutorials ;)
[Sastraxi]: I've got one too... see my site.
[user]: Thanks, 10000000 post maniac!
[user thread: 10000000 post manac!!! I NEED HELP!!!]
[user]: Okay your code didnt work
[Sastraxi]: Did you try my code?
[user]: You never posted any!
[Sastraxi]: Yes I did! You just ignored it.
[10000000 post maniac]: Try this this and this.
[user]: Thanks post maniac I will try that now.
[user]: Nope still didn't work.
No offense here but I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS.

chrisjk, I agree with you completely, (Especially since you included me in that list )
Sastraxi, I agree with you on everything but the post counts and titles. I think they should stay and everyone should choose their own titles regardless of their post count. And I think people should somehow be discouraged from judging someone's skill by their postcount.

It's all annoying. When I can't think of something, Megatron isn't the one that's always on my mind. I look at how people are experienced in certain areas and I think of that person. For example, geoff_xrx, at first, he wasn't that experienced in the WebBrowser Control, he made his WebBrowser for VB-World and all of a sudden, I noticed that he knows a lot. (Not just the basics), so whenever something comes up with the WebBrowser Control, geoff_xrx comes to mind. Binary - kedaman (but where is he? ) I think of many of you that can answer posts .
I don't know everything. I'm limited to what I know, but I still learn everything from everybody. Watchin' and studying how people's codes work.
And what pisses me off most...people (not mentioning any names, I'm sure you guys definitely know who they are), posting things like, "up" or "bump". I mean, obviously, people will look at that post, you don't have to keep posting that. And sometimes, they post "up" and then 10 minutes later..."help?"
Seriously gets annoying. Usually, when I post something, I wait a day before I post in it again, because the VBForums are world-wide, so if someone from within my time zone doesn't know the answer, perhaps someone from around the world will, so I wait a day before asking for help in the same thread again. Wish people would just be patient with their code. And maybe even search for their codes too..which have probably been posted a dozen times. All it takes is a little patients and some search keywords to find your answer.
Not offending anyone here at all, not targetting anyone at all, just stating the facts .

I actually think it's a good idea to pop your own thread back to the top. It allows more people to see it. Instead of waiting a day, people should do it at different times during the day. That's the best way of getting people in other time zones to see it.
I've seen cases where people have popped their thread back to the top several times before someone came by with an answer. I doubt the question would've been answered if they didn't do that.

yes I agree with Matt as well. there are a lot of people on here that are considered to be gifted as far as vb goes. you also have people that are better in some areas then other people, like Matt said. you noticed that it doesn't matter what section of the forum you are in you have someone there that knows his/her stuff.
don't forget about
Techman
parksie
like the games/grahpics, you have Zaie (might be spelled wrong sorry) and Sastraxi and Fox, are some of the few, that are a big help in there. so it doesn't matter where you go, there is always somebody that can help.
I also want to say thanks to the smut pack (gutter crew) for making this a wonderful place and keeping the humor up.
Good job guys

Aye? I guess it's kind of a reward actually. You show how dedicative you are and how much you put into this site and show that you can be helpful and John will reward you. I mean, this feature might be abused if John gives it to everybody (you know..names with certain words, even though John filters them out).
Actually, I think John should have a bunch more thread titles (not just regular Addicted, Hyperactive, Fanatic ones). This way, people will enjoy getting their more. To tell you the truth about getting a custom title, even though you can choose it, you don't look forward much to retrieving one anymore. Like when I became an Addicted Member, well..was long time ago, I was happy though, than Hyperactive..wow, the feeling, and then Fanatic! WHOA! ...than after that, Guru..but that's no longer given anymore. But the ?waitandsee? was soemthing to look forward to. It questioned many of the users here on the VBForums for a while, there were threads about it. And finally, Megatron broke and ran for the border, him and kedaman. Megatron got ahead of Aaron Young, than kedaman, than Serge for a while . And basically, we all shot up there, helping as many as we could. And when Megatron hit the ?waitandsee? and nothing happened, argh..we were disappointed, but than John made it an own Custom title . But the reason why there should be more titles is because the time from 512 (Fanatic Member) to 4096..is a long time to wait for a Custom Title, at least giving more people titles will get them motivated. I guess it's all treat that John gives us, we don't really need it because we are on this board to learn. And the 'helping people' part is definitely learning, especially for me. But who knows? Some people just like the idea of having a title under their name. I, myself, think John had a good idea when he did it, not that it's really important or anything. There's a few "Fanatic Members" on this board that have only asked question, which is what the board is for. If you choose to help or to just ask questions, than it's fine. Your decision. But being judged on what your title says is stupid. Well, my title says "Master"...which is the truth, so you can all believe that .
Now, also I mentioned Guru in there, want to go back to that...something that I also cannot stand. People singling out "Gurus". Aren't we all Gurus? We're all programmers that have our own expertise in an area, so that makes us a Guru for that area. All people are Guru in different areas. So we are all Gurus, aren't we?
And for getting threads back to the top, I think John should actually put a button. Notice how ALL of John's threads stay on top for a few days?
Nothing like that, but maybe something to move it back up there, maybe a 5-day period the button stays, and then it goes away (so people can't keep pressing it every single day, except for the 5 day period, I'm sure John..so smart and all..would definitely know how to do it ).

I agree, im proud that im a junior member now cuz it seemed dumb when you were talking to people that are on all the time (katie and chris) when it clearly stated that you were new. I think that there should be more titles though, and that they should be a little easier to attain. I thought about posting like a 1,000 threads in the chit-chat forum just to piss people off, but then i would do just that, piss people off, and a lot of people on this forum are generally nice people. I would also like to thank John for putting all of this together, this is about the only site that i ever visit to get help programming. But anyway not that anyone cares, thats just my two pennies (hey i gotta be a lil different)

We can put whatever we want as our avatars, right? Why not be able to change the title, which is really only a a quick phrase above the avatar. It has no other meaning. As far as rewards go, all the reward I need to keep me posting messages and helping others is knowing that I actually helped someone else. I don't think too many people are going for that magical 4096 count. It's too far off.

Just my two pennies.
I think it's good that there is a score to achieve before you can name your own title. It's kinda like a challenge. Why should a reward be given if it's easy to do?
Also, I don't mind people who up their post count by posting questions. Thats cool, they are participating in the forum. Surely the post count should be a record as to how much of a member of VB-Forum you are, not how much you know? This isn't an elitest club. If it was I would be gone like a shot. This is a gorup of people trying to help other people, and thats what I'm proud to be a member of. I say leave it as it is....

Monday Morning Lunatic
I'm touched that I was put under "entertaining" Bizarrely enough, I originally registered because I felt like it, and made 1 post in C++. Then I didn't come back - but returned a few months later and started contributing more to VB, but recently (especially with the arrival of Katie,SD,and all the rest of the newer chatty members...no offence) I've done a lot less VB, and moved more into general chat
Anyway, Megatron needs a good arse-licking occasionally because he needs *some* kind of incentive to get to 10,000

Sorry Beacon. Actually, I haven't answered many questions at all lately. I have been working 5-8 hour days everyday and by the time I get home, I am so tired, I get on the VBForums and I just don't feel like answering anything, so I just scroll through everything. Guess I've just been tired lately. I only have 2 days a week off and I haven't even had a chance to relax on those 2 days since I've been spending time with my dad (my parents are divorced) lately. So don't think it's just you, I've seen many questions I've probably been able to answer, but I didn't answer them.
