    game programming

I'm still a newbie, but I'm really learning C++ because I'd like to be able to make games and/or modify games like Unreal Tournament etc. Anyways, what do I need to know to make games?

unfortunatley if you want to get that far into it you'll need to know almost everything. Start with the basics. Try places like planetsourcecode.com a cprogramming.com for some help.

To make big games like UT you need a whole team of programmers not just one. Each of them specialises in one field (sound, graphics, AI, etc..).

A good place to start is to read the book 'Windows Game Programming for Dummies'. It's a really good book, which teaches you the basics about windows programming. Then it moves on to some GDI features, and finishes off with DirectX. (Which the entire book is based on).

The book require some experience in either C or C++.

www.gamedev.net is also a good place to start...

'Windows Game Programming For Dummies' is an old version of the book, the latest version (as far as I am aware) is 'Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus' (by Andre Lamothe) which is based on DirectX 6 (I think).

www.gamedev.net is an excellent site. It has some games forums similar to this one, but with more games programmers (obviously).

    Good luck by the way.

Yeah, before I found out about This site, I used to hang out in their forums everyday... but something happened I lost the link (or they changed servers) and I lost contact and since then I've forgotten about it...
